Session 0.5: Prologue Report

General Summary

What I remember

  This session was a introduction for the characters' backgrounds their lifepaths and why they became whatever roles were chosen and where they were when the Night City Holocaust occurred or how they were affected by it. This would give me info on how much needed to change with the original plot that was theorized and what other plot holes were left from their character creations.

Review of Characters

• Rowan Byrns aka Toolhand. An Austin, Texas native, Tech who was raised in the family of a corporate technician. His parents are still alive, and his father was an ex-employee of Rocklin Augmentics. He was betrayed, as someone used his efforts as a footstool for their promotion on the NC campus. Having no where-else to go, his parents sought refuge with the nomads on the outskirts of the city, since his mother had close relation. He was aware of the holocaust but only by hearsay of his father and mother and the ruin that he's experienced in the city that was left by the event. He currently lives in New Westbrook under the shadow of Rocklin Augmentics NC campus.
• Bertel Stanison aka Bear, or Starfish. A native of Rhodes, Greece, and a Rockerboy by heart, Bear is a staunch rebel against the advancement of technology and its effect on the world over the years fueled corporate bloodshed. His parents were corporate agents who went undercover in Europa Sur. Using their infrastructure his parents smuggled NeoLuddite propaganda into Greece. However in an unfortunate turn of events as he was to young to remember, his parents were assassinated as a result of their black market trade, being one of the targets of elimination by the greek military in the wake of the Greek coup in 2007. after he was orphaned hi was raised by a close family friend from Europa Sur named Renoldo Giannopoulos and his wife until she died of the plague. He finished high school and then left for Night City at the age of 17 seeking a bachelors degree in music from NCU. At this time he also performed as a duo with his partner until they were killed by a cyberpsycho. Impassioned by the grief he revisited his parents literature and seeded the NeoLuddite message in his industrial music .
• Dakota Sykes, aka Rowze, is a Polish native fixer in Night City, she was raised in one of the soviet style megastructures that predated the fall of the Easter Bloc and was revitalized by the Church of Poland. She lived their most of her life and decided to leave Poland in response to one of the many reforms of the Church-state made in Warsaw around 2024 in response to the chaos after the fall of the net. In 2032 She decided to leave as that Church abandoned the safety of the megastructure due to the discovery of black market contraband and was put in the hands of the Harbingers. After arriving in Night City in 2036, Dakota made her money surviving off the scraps of the streets dealing with other edgerunners fighting to survive the post holocaust nightcity hellscape.
• Vita Gracia, aka Neon Prophet, is a Night City native, Netrunner born of Central American nomad origin. His family prior to his birth were victims of the Long Walk Home, that took many lives of his early family. After returning to Night City in 2015 his mother along with his stepfather raised him in a megastructure in South Night City Old Japantown after being born in 2019, this megastructure was rife with crime and controlled by the mob, with them the provider of funds for the maintainance of the building. His parents joined the mafia upon arrival to the city, and did so until their death in 2025, when a deal with rival boostergangs overthrowing the mob rule went sour in the Combat Zone. His paternal uncle who died in the SouthAm war, passed on his military grade neural interface down to his father which was given to him as his first cyberware implant from his mother as a reminder of his biological father. This sparked his interest in netrunning and was interested in the history of the fallen net and he grew up as the Net was recovered by NetWatch after the Collapse of the Net. Now he makes his living dismantling the Yakuza and other targets he's hired to eliminate as a netrunner around the same time that the boostergangs made their rise.

What was discussed in the session RECORDING

 

• Bertel Stanison: Bear lives in the University District as an alumnus who smuggles for the edgerunners who help defend the campus from violent boostergangs like the Bozos. Bear has a studio apartment, in the district, that he pays for security from Arasaka Militech. GM gives information of Dr. Edward Michaels, The Dean of NCU as one of his contacts as an neutral allied connection. Apparently Bear was automatically given 3 enemies. Asked Bear if he was a defender of the campus, who helped the edgerunners defend the campus. He is now an arms dealer for those edgerunners. Bear's trust fund from his late parents was 2d10x100. Had him roll on the solo table for an extra hustle other than his rockerboy hustle. Bear is in debt to the NCU that he currently working with them as a supplier to repay. He grows his own food using indoor growing practices. Bear has a following with the Maelstrom, and the Inquisitors gangs, due to his music style attracting Maelstrom, and his propaganda attracting the Inquisitors. Had Ben roll 1d8x100 to see how much he pays to have bodyguard solo's protect him during high risk concerts from Rowze. He plays certain concerts at the Splooge a gentlemans club in North Westbrook. 

 

• Rowan Byrns: Toolhand owns a cargo container in which he operates his business out of, and owns the cargo container in full. Toolhand went to vocational school giving him his level of education. Discussed the origin of his education being from his mother's interest in psychology. He has high empathy due to being raised in a family environment and his parents still being alive and in good relation. Rowan's mother his is therapist, and was the one who installed his biomon. Toolhand has a vehicle, an El Camino truck named 'Big Papi', that was gifted from the Aldecaldos. A good amount of Rowan's money goes towards his business for Tech work. As he funds his own tools. Had him roll 1d6/by his budget(14000/5) (since it was too high). This is post game budget. He listens to Hard Rock, staple of Nomad life.

 

• Dakota Sykes: Rowze, was born in Poland, and raised in a megastructure. The megastructure had security paid for by corpo's. She later moved to night city after they fled the megastructure making the area a combat zone. Dakota's is low on empathy due to her being narcissistic in personality. Dakota works out of a container in Watson, and works with the Tyger Claws.

 

• Vita Gracia: Does business in Little Asia. His parents were refugees from the SouthAm war, and moved to a megastructure in old japantown. His father mother was given a cyberdeck neural link that connected to a Basilisk from his uncle who fought and died in the war. Learned how to explore the net at a young age. Explained that his line of work would involve working with corporation in covert operation in the net to find exposing data on other corporations as a disposable netrunner. This is usually with Biotechnica and Raven microcybernetics. Vita goes to Toolhand for repairs for his cyberdeck. She's Bohemian in style, and listens to Rap/Metal.

I gave them a formula on how to find the amount eddies that they have as a budget. Living expenses(rent, and food)- 1 hustle(roll on the hustle table/week x 4.5(12) 52.
