Episode 2 -- Unraveling the Slime Mystery, Landing on Mars
General Summary
When the heroes boarded the Zep-25, they were without weapons, attempting to covertly steal the food replication technology aboard the ship. But their mission was interrupted by an outbreak of slime — people who ingested the replicated food were turning into slime. The team rushed toward the elevator shaft where they’d stowed their weapons, only to “encounter” the ship’s embedded robotic security team. One of their number has been incapacitated and is being taken to the brig. What will the rest of the team do about it?
Darnell was the last man ‘standing’ in the face-off between the security robots. But it was Ammon who had defeated the bots, after having been knocked down, he stood again and took out the last robot…with a glance at Darnell… He then proceeded to walk over the 'brig' where TSB was being held captive. Though TSB was going toe-to-duplicative-toe against the bots, the bot kept getting the best of him. it was Ammon (again) who landed the final blows. The team had a conversation with the husband of Skymynd Industries CEO, Anneke Strydom, and he informed them that he discovered that his wife’s mining company has been covering up the ZOMBIES created by exposure to an unknown substance from their operations on Mars. When he confronted her about it, she threatened to have him ‘silenced’. Then, after the ship took off, the robots took him to the brig. With this knowledge, the team moved quickly to enter the food replication area, where Darnell hacked into the computer systems and precariously navigated into the highly secure codebase. Not fully understanding the organic chemistry behind what was happening, he could determine that the minerals used in the process were highly unstable...with multiple failover routines in place in the code. When attempting to download the code, the mineral's instability came to bear and his extract device turned to slime. Darnell just barely removed his hand in time to avoid being turned to slime as well. Ammon offered up his suit's internal computer so that Darnell could get another chance to download the food replication technology, but again -- the unstable mineral compound caused even that computer to turn to 'mush'. At that point, Richard Strydom stepped forward and further explained. What is happening here is surely caused by the minerals we are extracting on Mars. This slime and the people who've been turned into slime is devastating, but there is something much worse happening on Mars when we extract the minerals. Please -- help me shutdown this operation. The team agreed, helping to defeat the remaining security bots and bring Richards wife, Anneke, to the brig until they could determine what was happening in the Mars Mining Operation.
Once landing on Mars, the team was taken by mechanical transport through the cold sands. On their way, they encountered three 'zombies', as Richard called them. He stated that 30% of their workforce had been infected with the same mineral that had been turning people into slime on the Zep-25. After too much inhalation of the mineral in dust form, these workers had become like zombies. The team agreed then to help him shut-down the company and destroy the machines that change the extracted mineral into powder form. But as they approached the mining operation, they could see something more terrifying the zombies -- a monstrosity. Richard explained that Mars' caves were full of all sorts of devastating creatures. Though the mining operations security forces were engaging with the monstrosity, it was undeterred. Will the heroes survive this monstrosity? Will they be able to shut-down the mining operation? Episode 3 of Extinction Event will pickup here, at the Mars Mining Operation, as the Acolytes of the Illuminati take on a Martian Cave Monstrosity. Watch the entire video here:
