Session 11: Fame, Fortune, and Flayed People Report

General Summary

The party has discovered that the Coalition Magen have destroyed Rhodes and are on to our heroes. After a brief discussion with the queen, the city is once again attacked by Magen. They continue to strike and strike. The Queen will determine that they are after a member of our hero's party.   The attacks continue to come, and there is definitely some level of fear in the city. This is heightened when the Gray-Robed Man sets dozens of people on fire and creates a message in the sky. "Give him to us."   Sala really sits down to consider the attack plan of the Magen and determines where they will strike next... But he realizes that if he just puts some more time and energy into it, he might be able to ascertain where they are staging their attacks from. After considerable deliberation, and help from Lucas, Sala narrows the site of the Magen down to 3 possible locations. This takes a toll on Sala, but fortunately Nima decides to heal him up and   1) A house in the poor sector of town. 2) A spot within the castle walls. 3) A noble house in one of the more expensive sectors of town.   In true heroic fashion, they divide the party and each chase a different location. Fortunately, the Queen is able to use her powerful Discernment Virtue to grant telepathic binding between three of them: Elliott, Lucas, and the Queen herself.   Sala and the Queen go to the noble's house. They discover the place abandoned, and even the Queen is unable to sense the presence of anybody. However, a careful search reveals the house does have an inhabitant: Namely, Sinclair the Beggar. After a brief dialog with Sinclair, Sala and the Queen realize the Magen have been found: They are in the poor house, and they depart immediately to attempt to stop the Magen from burning the city. Sinclair gives his sword to Sala, telling him, "Kill them. Kill them all."   Things are just as tense for Red Jim and Lucas as they arrive at the poor house. Realizing they are not well-armed to strike in quite so BOLD a fashion, they suit up as Magen and attempt to stride into the house. The ruse is successful, and it is fortunate because the house is packed with Magen, including the Gray Robed Man. Gray Robe welcomes these newcomers and tells them to stand to a wall while assignments are determined. He has been charged with torching the town. He intends to send forth the Magen using a Reach he reveals, and then he will leave on his own.   Elliott's journey begins quiet. He goes with Nima and some guards deeper into the castle walls. Nima carries on a conversation with Elliott and begins asking some probing questions about his past. He tells her of the library, of being imprisoned, and of engaging with magics quite unlike anything that Magen have seen. The dialog turns slightly darker as Nima shares her own past, her time as a slave within Flamewrought, and again within Oceangarde.   Red Jim/Tiffany desperately tries to convince The Gray Robed Man to remain and lead the forces, but he simply laughs and replies, "Oh my dear. You are new. There is nothing to fear with my departure. You see, I am not the one leading this expedition." This is dark news for our heroes as they realize they need to stop him from escaping.   At the same moment, Nima strikes at Elliott, desiring his lore, knowlege, and power for her own. She attempts to bind him in a powerful sleep, but he is barely able to resist. Things are problematic for him, but he is able to quickly use his Reach to escape the wall into a field outside.   They attempt to surprise him and steal the Reach, which is basically a complete fail. Almost immediately after this event, Sala and the Queen arrive and begin striking down the Magen that still remain within the Poor House. Gray Robes and Tiffany/Red Jim depart, joining up with Nima. The rest of the Magen are not so lucky. Without a reach to help them escape, and while facing Sala's magic sword, they are easy meat.   Gray Robes and Tiffany/Red Jim arrive at Nima. Unfortunately, the chaos of it all causes Gray Robes to drop the Reach. Jim leaps for it, and activates it to find himself out in the field with Elliott. They seem safe for the moment.   But now the party has a new problem. The real threat is still out there, and it no longer needs to hide.
