Session 6: A Return to Normalcy Report
General Summary
Return to Nightfall Glen: A Moment of Peace
The party returned to Nightfall Glen triumphant, having vanquished the cult of Narthos and cleansed the beacon. For a couple of days, they stayed in the village, savoring the peace they had fought so hard to win. As a celebration, they witnessed the ethereal Moonflower Bloom, a sight that filled the night with a soft glow and brought a rare moment of calm after their long battles. It felt like a dream, the perfect respite before another journey.
The Journey South: The Wyvern’s Ambush
Once the Moonflower Bloom passed, the party set their sights southward toward Rivermire, responding to news of trouble near the city. But before they left, the innkeeper of Nightfall Glen gave them a grim warning—trade had halted along the river to Rivermire. Shipments were disappearing without a trace, something far too large-scale to be the work of mere bandits. The party took this warning to heart as they began their journey.
On the road south, the tranquility of their journey was shattered when a massive Wyvern descended from the skies, its wings casting a dark shadow over them. It taunted the party in the draconic tongue, boasting of their impending demise. The beast tore into them with brutal force, its claws and fangs nearly ending their lives. The battle was fierce, with most of the party taking mortal wounds. It was only through sheer luck and resilience that no one perished. The wyvern was defeated, but the victory was hard-earned, and they barely managed to regroup before continuing onward.
Arrival in Rivermire: A City on Edge
Upon reaching Rivermire, the party found the city far quieter than usual. The bustling trade hub was clearly suffering from the loss of river commerce, and the streets reflected that—the markets were nearly empty, and people were on edge. As they asked around, it wasn’t long before they found a local man named Trevaron, complaining openly about the shutdown of river trade and his inability to feed his family. He told the party that the ships weren’t simply disappearing—they were being torn apart and pulled under the water by an unknown threat.
Trevaron suggested they seek out one of four key figures in Rivermire who might help: Yara Stormfoot, the leader of the Dockworkers’ Guild; Ilora Windrider, a wyvern expert; Orin Blackthorn, a local ranger; or Lady Maris Thandril, a member of the Merchant Council who was offering to fund efforts to solve the crisis. With these names in mind, the party decided to head to the docks and speak with Yara Stormfoot.
Ambush at the Docks: River Drakes Strike
They had barely made contact with Yara when shouts erupted from the piers. One of the dockworkers was being dragged into the water by some unseen force! Gale rushed to the worker’s aid, gripping the man’s arms and pulling with all his might. But it wasn’t enough. In a horrifying moment, the dockworker was torn beneath the surface, and all that was left was a red mist rising from the water.
Before the party could even react, the unseen creatures launched their own assault. Acidic spheres and slashing claws rained down on them. River Drakes had launched a surprise ambush, catching the party off guard. The battle was chaotic, with the drakes using the water to their advantage, retreating beneath the surface before surfacing for quick, devastating strikes. The party found themselves on the backfoot, fighting to survive as the creatures circled them, clearly intent on finishing what they started.
