Session 35: Through Portals and Planes Report
General Summary
Recap: A knock at the door interrupts the meeting, and it's Rainer outside. Rainer is curious about the new arrivals to the Manor, but ultimately is interested in how Eleonora and Rhea/Wren is doing. The pleasantries are exchanged, until a pair of additional guests arrive as well; Jhin, with Meta right behind him. Eleonora, still quite frustrated at Jhin's crass disregard for the deaths of her companions steps outside with him to talk, and while everyone else is speaking among themselves, and explosion is heard within the basement. In front of a volatile hydroarcanic generator is the strange creature from the basement, seen very long ago when the party first came to the house. It explains that the overuse of hydroarcanic power in the city has cause a natural portal to the plane of Limbo to shift in its alignment, and is now transforming into a portal to the elemental plane of water. Just then, in a burst of energy, the generator shifts, with a flooding torrent of angry water elementals rushing out into the basement. The party does their best to stave them off, but they keep forming faster than they can be killed; yet Thornelius has an idea. He begins to try to overcharge the generator even further, hoping to shift its alignment again to another, safer plane; and it works. The torrenting blue portal shifts to a calm indigo color, which the creature explains should lead to the plane of Ysgard. On whim, lead by Thornelius, the party travels through the portal, discovering this fantastical expanse of floating islands arrayed much like rivers drifting through the void. At the end of a path from the portal, lies a great stone temple, which peaks the party's interest. As step onto the courtyard, they are greeted by a muscular angelic woman who calls herself Hlín. She professes that she's the guardian of this temple, Temple Alheim, which a couple of the party members recognize as translating to "The Temple of the Universe." Hlín is welcoming, though she makes it absolutely clear that the party is to not attempt to enter the temple, or even discern its purpose; stating that attempting to enter would force them to engage in a single combat to the death. A few members of the party convince her to allow them to attempt entering without dying for failure, but ultimately they are not able to best her. At the entrance of the Temple, there lays a diagram of the cosmology of the planes, detailing the relationships of law, chaos, evil, and good relative to the planes. In the center of this diagram appears to be another portal, which Hlín says leads to a plane known as "The Concordant Opposition," a plane of pure neutrality. With their curiosities burning ever brighter, the party decide they want to try to jump in, and discover how much deeper this rabbit hole goes.
