Session 37: Trial by Fire Report

General Summary

Recap: In the morning, the party get to the dragon turtle, and though reluctantly, he agrees to be temporarily polymorphed so that he can fit through the color pool to the temple. Traveling back to Ysgard, the party stand before Hlín once again, who is beginning to get tired of their attempts to enter the temple. She questions their motivation for entering the temple, and offers to explain what's inside for the sake of satisfying their curiosity, though under the condition that they do not attempt to enter. The party declined her offer, and presents the dragon turtle as their champion to fight against her.   The battle between Hlín and the dragon turtle is fierce, narrowly leading to Hlín's victory, just until the dragon turtle was able to land one last hit before it perished. Hlín shifted into a small flicker of flame, trailing off behind the temple. What returned was her true form, a stunning radiant phoenix, almost as large as the temple entrance itself. The party did their best to combat her new form, with Frictimen dying in the midst of the combat, and the pair of Thornelius and Eleonora working together to pick Hlín apart from afar. Almost being killed in a last ditch attack from Hlín, Thornelius was able to stop her with a well-placed final shot, winning the fight for the party.   Back at the temple's entrance, what remained at the temple's entrance was Frictimen's corpse, as well as a residual Phoenix egg which likely contained a new Hlín, soon to be born. Thornelius had the idea to check the Concordant opposition for someone who could resurrect Frictimen, and happened to win the favor of a passing angel. The angel resurrected the fallen satyr, as well as healed some of the party, though he began to question this temple, and the party's purpose here. After some ill-delivered deception, the angel grew more suspicious, and demanded that they be brought to the party's leader before he could let them continue on their way.   Returning to the material plane, the party somberly lead the angel to Jhin, who was extraordinarily furious with them for bringing another angel into this, and tried to excuse himself. The angel was unrelenting in confrontation, which pushed Jhin over the edge. Jhin slaughtered both the angel, and his pet pegasus, menacingly ordering the party to finish their mission, or suffer the consequences. As such, the party traveled back to the temple, keen on recovering whatever was inside.   Past the massive stone doors, the temple simply had a single chamber interred within. A domed room filled with ambient white light presented an ancient-looking metal ewer, which contained some kind of strange liquid within. As they interacted with it—

she was there
—they came to some kind of understanding that whatever this ewer was, it was the key to some kind of divine understanding. Thornelius immediately rushed for it, and drank the 'soup.'
