Session 5 - Sans Bucky
General Summary
Before leaving, they contacted a woman they were told was a frequent visitor to Mbala. She told them of the hag Nanny Pu'pu, and begged them to rid the forest of this evil menace. When they mentioned they were going to Orolunga, she told them that they must be looking for the Lost City of Omu. She offered to guide them there, but the party felt it already had too many. They set off down river, stopping at Camp Vengeance to resupply. Afterwards they set off through the jungle for Mbala. After climbing the plateau, they came to the gates. They were rotted and destroyed, and in their place was piles of human skulls, enough to fill the entire entrance to the city. The party was disturbed enough to climb up and go around the gate rather than wade through the skulls. Mbala was a husk of its former glory, every building having been burned to the ground or torn down into rubble, only the foundations showing. After working their way through the empty streets, they found a single hut at the edge, built from the ribs of some giant lizard. An old woman circled the hut. The party immediately deduced that this was the hag, and that they needed to attack with surprise rather than try speaking with her.
After a pitched battle with the hag and her flesh golem, they searched the town, retrieving the hag's stash of valuables, and considered the matter closed. Continuing through the jungle toward Orolunga, they came across the wreck of an airship, which they later learned to be the Star Goddess. Hearing faint cries for help up above, and seeing a pack of ghouls sniffing around the trees, they decided to risk that it was a trap and try to rescue the survivors. They ghouls, similar to the humans they met earlier, had blue triangles painted on their foreheads. As soon as the party attacked in force, the ghouls retrtreated into the jungle. The party began climbing up toward the survivors, when three zombie girallons, four-armed ape monstrosities, came bounding through the trees to attack. The girallons began with the survivors, who were weak from lack of food, and began tossing them to the ground. The party quickly made it to the top and engaged them. Fighting the confined quarters and slippery branches, they managed to eek out a victory, saving three of the Halruaans: the captain Thasselandra Bravewing, the scout Na-Das, and the veteran Falx Haranis. The party decided to take a day to nurse them back to where they could walk, and took them along as they pressed on to Orolunga.Rewards Granted
