Session 19: The Great Esc-Ape Report
General Summary
Issue #13
The Great Esc-Ape
The heroes are called together by Director Fury and they are informed of a hostage situation in the Republic of Congo. An unknown terrorist group has taken a scientific research group hostage, which includes Professors Heron, Plastiq's parents, along with a group of poachers. The group wants a great deal of high-tech equipment and parts, which is odd since it is believed that the group is operating out of the No-Tech Zone that covers most of central Congo. Fury chose the team since none of their abilities are connected with technology so the No-Tech Zone will not impact their effectiveness. The heroes come up with a plan where Shelvastra, the chief pilot for the Avengers, will fly the group in a Quinjet as close as possible to the edge of the No-Tech Zone and the heroes will drop in using squirrel wingsuits and infiltrate the terrorist camp and rescue the hostages. The plan goes well, even though most of the group had never used a wingsuit before. It doesn't take long before they pick up a trail. There are signs of a struggle, but not much blood. The odd thing, however, is that it appears that the hostages were taken by a group of gorillas! Invisibly, they follow the tracks, but Cady gets too far ahead and is surprised by two gorillas carrying high-tech rifles and speaking english! Zoetrope creates an illusionary version of themself and the "two" of them are taken towards the gorilla's camp. The camp is made up of several huts built from trees and hides, with the exception of one building made of stone. One gorilla enters the building and shortly re-emerges with a larger ape with a bionic eye and arm. Hope detects the use of Mystech on all the weapons and on the large ape's prostheses. Cady attempts to get the ape leader, known as Kershek, to believe that she has come to negotiate for the release of the hostages. However, Kershek does not believe her and sees the value of even more hostages so he orders Cady and Illusion-Alex to be thrown in with the rest of the prisoners. Inside the prisoner's hut they find Cady's parents along with their research team and a small group of poachers. Her parents are, understandably, confused as to why she is in the Congo. The heroes come up with a plan. They send Angel out into the jungle and then use the portal rings to get everyone out of the tent and into the jungle. With that, the hostages exit the tent and head into the jungle to safety.Rewards Granted
