Guide to World Anvil's global posts

Available to all Guild subscription tiers. Upgrade here.

On World Anvil, global posts is a great way to share your creative work, excitement, advice and inspiration with the rest of the community! You can also interact with others by reading, commenting and liking their posts! Here's everything you need to know about global posts.

How to create a global post

On your World Anvil dashboard, you can find the global posts under the Community tab.

Another place on the site where you can create global posts, is your View Profile page. You can access it by clicking your profile picture on the top right of your screen.

  1. Go to the Main Dashboard or your Author Profile.
  2. Write your post! If it’s a short message (<128 characters), you can write in the main text box. For longer posts, add your title in the main text box and click the “Make a Journal Entry” button. The journal entry field is BBCode enabled, which means you can use formatting and embed article blocks and images (and everything else) there.
  3. (optional) Add a header image! Click the “Add a Header Image” button, and type the image ID number.
  4. Once you’re ready, click Post!

Global posts are a guild perk and cost 500 Anvil coins (which you earn by simply logging in to World Anvil each day!).

How to edit your global posts

Besides text, there are many ways to enrich your posts and make them more reader friendly! If you're making longer posts, here are some recommendations:

  1. Add a header image. Click on the option and simply type the name of your image or paste its ID.
  2. Add a title in the first text box.
  3. Click the button to ''Make it a journal entry'' that has BBcode Enabled. This will allow you to link to your articles or show additional images.
  4. Add links to your articles. Both block links as well as textual links work. To grab them, head to your article's full edit page, click on the ''Open Advanced Tools & Options'' button, click on ''Metadata'' and then click on the copy button.
  5. Add links to the rest of your work. Besides articles, you can link to your timelines, manuscripts, categories, statblocks, content trees (textual lists and static charts), diplomacy webs and whiteboards.
  6. Add images. Upload your images to World Anvil and then copy their ID by clicking on the copy button on the top right of each image. Paste the image ID in your global post.

Hashtags

You can also add hashtags to your posts! Hashtags will make it easier for others to find your global posts and you can also browse other people's posts more efficiently. Here are some tips:

  • Event hashtags. There is a new event, challenge or competition every month on World Anvil! Use the event specific hashtags when making posts related to them.
  • Capitalisation. We recommend you use a capital letter at the beginning of each word that makes up the hashtag (aka CamelCase). For example, #SummerCamp.
  • Trending hashtags. You can find the currently trending hashtags on the top right of the dashboard.

Keep in mind

Here are some things that you should always keep in mind when posting globally:

  • Don't spam! Try to keep global posts to no more than one per day. Spamming is not good and it might very well get your ability to post globally revoked, and nobody wants that!
  • Follow our guidelines. Make sure to always follow our Etiquette and Terms of Service.
  • Be a force for good! Be creative and helpful, announce things that the community will be excited about or share resources that make everyone's worldbuilding life better!
  • Embrace the community. Be a good sport, post helpful things globally and you might see your post pinned on the top for everyone to see! Reply to other people’s global posts, and you’ll soon make friends and see more interaction on your own too.
