game session handout screen throws a 404 error for the players when an article with an image in it is shown to the players via the "show to players" button.   handout screen remains intact and article is correctly displayed for me, the DM.   text-only posts and dice rolls work fine for both.   handout screen can be accessed again after context is removed via the "clear handout screen" button.   images are embedded via the copy code.   issue encountered on various OSs and browsers.

Steps to Reproduce

1. run a game session with multiple players 2. show an article with an image embedded into it via the "show to players" button.

Hey buosocomes!   How certain are you that this is the issue? Can it be that specific article having another issue? I have tried the reproduction steps with 1 and 5 images linked using. url and non of them seem to cause and issue and it doesn't seem to be a code-level issue or reason either.   Can. you please try this.

  • Create a new article
  • Add only an image linked via url in it (use another image not the ones used before)
  • Send it to the handout screen
  • Test if the error still occurs
  • Let me know! So we can take it from there

Hi Dimitris,   thank you for your swift reply.   What exactly do you mean by URL? The URL of the image as it appears in the "Images in [WORLDNAME]" tab? [e.g. https://www.worldanvil.com/i/5503917]

Hey buosocomes - I am sorry I think, I have misread part your bug report. I still cannot reproduce this though.   Do you have a specific article that you are tying to share and crashes? have you tried any other article with images, preferably a new one with just an image in it?

    buosocomes @ 15 Apr, 2024 09:03:41

Hi Dimitris,   I have tried it with several articles (some of them created from scratch) with different image formats (.jpg and .png) and the result is always the same.   As soon as an article with an image in it (i have tried to embed it with both the img and imgblock tags) hits the handout screen, it becomes unavailable to my players.   the crazy thing is that it displays perfectly fine on my end.   i have also reviewed privacy settings, so that shouldn't be the issue.

Thank you buosocomes - that is I think a good amount of information to run a test or two - Let me see what I can find out.

Hey buosocomes   So I can confirm that:

  • Images of any kind ARE NOT the problem
  • The issue is not with a specific article template
  • But ... There is an issue which has to do with security. Are you trying by any chance to share to your players an article which is either draft or private without them having access to it (as in private but with the players party group assigned to it) by any chance?

Hi Dimitris,   Thank you! I‘ll be sure to review and test it ASAP.   I won‘t be able to do it before tomorrow evening (Berlin time), however   I‘ll get back to you as quick as I can

Hi,   following your suggestion, i have reviewed the access permissions.   They were indeed the cause of the problem, which is now resolved.   Thank you for your support!   I think it would be great if you could get the session handout screen to throw that cute little "multipass" error that is displayed in the world view or something similiar.   thanks and all the best,   buosocomes

Hey buosocomes - I will do you one better - we are currently designing a completely new version of this that it will have about 5 times the abilities and it will be so much sleeker to use for both you and your players
