New Timelines - Event - Related Article cannot access all articles

When creating or editing an event in the new Timelines, the Related Article uses a dropdown list that shows a small subset of articles instead of being able to choose from all articles.

Steps to Reproduce

In new Timelines, create or edit an Event. Try to select a Related Article. Dropdown list will not show all articles.

Hi, this is not a bug. This was changed sometime last year due to issues the feature was causing. Use the mention system in the event description to link other article types!

Using the mention system makes sense and is what I expected. But… The Related Article dropdown list exists. What does the list represent? Does it have a purpose?
