The War of Dishonor
A 150 year rebellion fought between the rebelling Orebim dwarf colonists and the Torogo dwarfs who sent them.
By 1559, or 107 years into the War of Dishonor. An entire generation of Orebite colonists have been resisting the Torogon Empire. Those brave Orebites have saddled the brunt of hostilities against the local denizens and shouldered the work of maintaining a successful colony while the empire loots the dragon’s share of the colony’s resources.
The Orebites foment and fume under an iron rule. While the Torogons share the same lineage, and spent a vast quantity of resources to establish, defend and maintain the colony, they deliver the iron gauntlet of superiority, pride and cold hardheartedness. A schism as wide as the vast space between dwarven worlds has opened in the dwarven blood lines.
The most downtrodden souls were the first to turn. Robbing from the Empire to make ends meet or to flash a vulgar gesture to those who impinge their freedoms. Early on these first "criminals" were abhorred by Colonists and the Empire alike, but as the iron fist of the Regime continued to revoke rights, seize wealth and incarcerate with a broad brush, the fires of rebellion were stoked. "Criminals" became "Folk Heroes" and "Folk Heroes" became the leaders of "The Resistance". Before long "The Resistance" grew into an occupied community in open civil disobedience. Rumors that the Torogon will enact a decree of "Ad Faciendem Detinent" (execute over incarcerate), as a "cost-saving alternative" grants the "Silent Majority" a firm and united voice.
In 5559, the glorious days of open rebellion and righteous blood shed are some years away. In this year, only the bold folk heroes and their loyal followers dare raise an axe to the Empire!
The Torogon control the area known today as the Kingdom of Eight Stones. The war of words unfolds in public courts, city squares, taverns and embassies. It is fought on foot in dark tunnels, hidden vaults and in the dark cellars of the underground cities. It is fought in the skies amid cold maintenance halls of the orbiting space-port, or in the back rooms of its cosmopolitan taverns. And it is fought in space between daring rebel Corvairs and wayward Empiral Iron-clads behind the dark side of Orebim’s moon.
