Ever since man kind was young, it's dreamed up leaving it's world and touching the stars.
Since man first came about they have wished to travel to the stars.
Ever since man kind was young, it's dreamed up leaving it's world and touching the stars.
In reaching the moon man kind attracted the attention of powerful beings, beings we now called "the gods".
The god's came to earth, recognizing that man kind had achieved a milestone in becoming an inter-planetary species. The god's brought with them the gift of magic, knowledge that furthered man kind's technology as well as they brought with them the fantastical races and creatures.
For almost 30 years, Oghma, the god of knowledge, taught many of man kind in the ways of science and progress, but mankind grew envious of the god, feeling that Oghma was holding out on them. Many are unsure how it happened, some say it was an accident, some say it was murder, but man kind killed the god; unlocking the secret of faster than light travel in the process.
When Oghma's body fell, the oceans rose to 300 meters above sea-level killing much of the world's population and destroying most major cities. The other gods, furious in the loss of their companion, added their power to the near extinction level event. After this mighty flood, all of the world's oceans suddenly disappeared leaving nothing but a desert wasteland. An "X" ocean or "Oxean" as many now refer to it.
Some say Oghma's final words were a curse. A curse to prevent man kind from progressing ever again.
In the wake of The Great Rebuke a new phenomena was observed: anywhere the ocean's waters used to touch, 300 meters above sea-level and below, was now a technological dead zone, frying anything invented after 1969. Survivors began referring to this force field as "The Drowning", but it seems to have a mind of it's own. Not effecting technological creatures with a soul, higher functioning robots like androids and synths.
The Drowning has separated the world into three key biomes:
1. The Oxean: where no technology newer than 1969 works.
2. The Boneyard: coastal ruins where some tech functions depending on the moon and the tide.
3. The Islands: Ground higher than 300m, where technology flourishes.
Rebuilding the world from this great disaster, like vultures, corporations squeezed a profit out of a broken world and as a result grew in power.
In just a few decades, five companies monopolized every corner of the markets.
JoyCo, Sulrand IND, CalFi, Wakefield Life, and PanTech.
Colonizing of other planets in our solar system began, construction of spaceports and orbiting stations as well as profiting from off world mining operations.
Hearing the cries of the faithful, the god's return to earth with an olive branch extended to any that would take it. Many believe it's a fresh start, a second chance to not repeat the mistakes of the massacred past. Many are afraid of the god's and their raw uncheck power, believing that Oghma's death was an accident and that the god's over reacted. The corporations don't like the return as they see the god's as babysitter of humankind, who can no longer be trusted unsupervised.
