Floating Stone WIP
Floating stone is one of the hardest elements to find in the world, but when it's found, there are hundreds of people from a variety of counties that are looking to buy it. It's named well and can float on water - at least one king is determined to collect enough to use as a ship, but there are others out there who haven't said what their plans are for the material.
What few small pieces that have been found are either super small (the bone of a finger for example) or are only about as high as a human ankle is from the ground. The color is a soft bluish white that some call to be cloudy, others think to be the color of sea foam as it hits the rocks on the coast. The biggest piece was found in Reef and was sold by the locals to get enough coin to fund their need for spices and sweets that would grow on their sandy soil (they used those to make the overprices drinks to sell to tourists).
Most pieces are found floating in the ocean, and any sailor who spots a piece can get the lion's share while sharing it with their captain (since without the captain, they wouldn't be sailing). Other than that, pieces are found on the sands of Iridst, and it's a common activity for people to stroll along the beach with a bag in tow (just in case they find something). However, what people mostly find that way are relationships that last, some that end, and for a lucky few, activities that enlarge their family.
One piece the size of a finger can be sold for at least 500 gold coins. What normally happens is that the person who finds it doesn't tell others, but goes to the mayor of the city and asks them to bring a buyer from the capital. This is done so that the item isn't stolen and that the person bringing the money isn't waylaid by bandits on their way there. Once the piece is confirmed, it's sold. In addition to those that would use it, there are a few cultures that consider this a scared material, one that allows souls to float onto the next world. If one of them finds it, the names of all those recently lost will be carved onto it and it'll be set adrift into the ocean again. It's unknown if the people that do this realise that their soul stone (if found) will be sold to the highest bidder.
