The Jungle Pest

An ancient plague birthed from a long-forgotten loa once left buried beneath the ruins of Zul'Gurub, the miasma or jungle pest soon began to spread throughout the Strangelthorn, turning many trolls into mindless, animalistic creatures bereft of mortal sapience. The rising tide of these voodoo-cursed shamblers quickly drew international attention, with the great powers of the Horde and Alliance soon deploying great armies to stop the spread of the miasma.
In the end, it is said that an artillery bombardment collapsed the unearthed temple of the nameless loa, sending it and the jungle pest which it breathed into the world back into the annuals of history.
