The Nightshard

If these texts are to be believed, then this creature is of the Goddess herself. How many of her brethren have been corrupted by the wickedness of the Draenei, I wonder?

About

The Nightshard (X’ozu) is a Darkened Lesser-Naaru discovered by the Astromancers of the Eternal Sisterhood. Though a being of Void Magic its perception as a divine being has been cited as the Sisterhoods motivation for embracing the “Dark Aspect of Elune” in order to combat the Kaldorei Night Warrior aspect as well as a method of better understanding Loyalist Void Magics.   It maintains the silhouette of a regular Naaru, however over time her light has leaked from her cracked shell. Giving her an almost ethereal, night-like appearance.

History

Before her fall from grace, X’ozu was once of the Army of the Light, part of a triumvirate of Naaru who oversaw a fierce battle against the Dreadlord Belgror which ultimately resulted in the Legion emerging victorious.    The dreadlord, ever nefarious in their scheming, captured X’ozu and her brethren. Torturing and draining the Naaru of their light so that they would turn to their darkened state and ultimately serve as a weapon for the Legion. While Belgror was successful in transforming X’ozu and her sisters the downfall of the burning legion forced the Nathrezim into hiding.   At some point, the Ethereum caught wind of X’ozu being held on a derelict Legion Command Centre within the Great Dark Beyond and sent Nether-Architect Sabaal to attempt to recover it. However, the Ethereum agents were quickly captured by Belgror and forced to oversee his creation as he sought to rebuild his forces amidst the chaos.   The Naaru continued to make her presence felt upon the wreckage however, over the course of the years following the legions downfall the asteroid she inhabited changed to emit a faint purple glow. Creating an anomaly in the stars the Astromancers of the Sisterhood named “The Night Star”   The Night Star was first discovered by Sisterhood Astromancers before the defeat at the battle for Kreltar Island. While observed by the Matron and her associates it was not properly researched until after the crippling defeat at the hands of an unleashed horror by loyalist forces.   Following their defeat, the Matron obsessively sought to unravel the mysterious visions being imposed upon her Astromancers studying the Star. Believing it to be messages from Elune itself astromancers Estalar and Mythradir devised a ritual to communicate with the being, ultimately drawing the forces of the Blood of Martyrs to investigate their meddling in Tirisfal.   Though pushed out of the area the Sisterhood managed to gain insight to the location of the Night Star, realizing that the being they were communicating with was trapped within a ruin legion vessel the Sisterhood began work once again to free it. Eventually managing to rewire a damaged Demon portal in the broken shore to establish contact with the derelict Command Centre.   It was there the Sisterhood finally met X’ozu and her enslaved caretaker Sabaal. The Ethereal explained to the Sisterhood that they too would be trapped here unless they aided in his escape. Claiming that he would be willing to part with the Night Shard in exchange for his freedom and aid in stealing the secrets of the conversion of X’ozu from the Dreadlord who imprisoned him. The Sisterhood agreed, seeing the potential to learn from Sabaal more useful than killing him.   Their actions did not go unnoticed however, the Nightborne’s theft of the Night Shard angered Belgror and it wasn’t long before he sent an army of his assembled Demonic forces to Fal’adora to attempt to reclaim it.   The Sisterhood managed to drive back the Demons through the use of the Nightshards power, Belgror retreated. Vowing to one day “Claim what was his”. This victory, combined with Elseth’s prominent rise to the Matron's favor resulted in the Naaru’s adoption as a divine being in the eyes of the Eternal Sisterhood. The Matron adopting the namesake of the Grand Temple of Elune in naming it as a “Being of the Eternal Night.”   The Sisterhood currently oversees the protection and study of X’ozu, believing it to be a being unburdened by Draenei Corruption.
