The Ring of Domination

About

The Ring of Domination is a magical ornate ring used for the intended purpose of controlling the darkened energies of the Maw as well as using its influence to control the undead. It was in the possession of the Mawsworn until it was stolen by the Scourge splinter group; the Followers of Domination.

History

Created inside the accursed halls of Torghast, the ring was forged using the byproduct of tortured souls known as stygia by an unknown craftsman. The ring was then sent down to Azeroth during the Mawsworn's first offensive into Icecrown and was intended as a tool for the use of controlling the undead armies of the Scourge by the Mawsworn lieutenants on the Jailer's behalf. However, the ring's power wasn't fully powered on its initial arrival and was subject to a constant stream of souls and necrotic power to keep it stable until it was ready for use.   Before the armies of both the Alliance and Horde took to the stage of Northrend to combat the newly arisen Scourge threat, a group of undead who broke away from the Jailer's influence known as the Followers of Domination, set out to Icecrown to scout out this sudden takeover. During their small campaign, they interrogated and tortured several members of the Cult of the Damned to learn of the ring's existence which eventually led them to its holding location. The followers slew the being known as the Ring-Keeper guarding the artifact and stole the incompleted ring. Immediately leaving Icecrown.   Deep within Vol'dun a battle happened between two forces, one holding the ring and another holding the Stone of Midas. The one holding the ring wished for a bigger army, the stone managed to control an army of golden skeletons. An army that could resist the sharpest blades and the biggest bullets! However the battle ended with both falling, both the stone and the ring were lost. In time the League of Modimus heard of this ring and this stone, they felt it was too powerful, it had to be destroyed or kept within a thick, deep vault. They managed to obtain both items but only one got destroyed...  Within Blackrock Mountain, we had the Modimi and the Order of Oronaar defend the stone whilst the Coppersail Corsairs and the warlocks attacked! During the fight the ring was tossed into the lava of Blackrock, causing it to be destroyed within seconds!

Powers & Consequences

The ring grants the user incredible necromantic power but at a cost. Due to the time in which the ring was stolen and the state it was in, those that use the ring are more susceptible to the influence of the Jailer. Known visible side-effects include the hand of where the ring is placed on blackened by maw corruption, the user becoming paler and skinnier, and on rare occasions, temporarily mind-controlled by an unknown force. These symptoms have been found to be treatable to some extent however no proper cure, antidote, or countercurse has been found to remove the effects completely.   Eventually, over time, the wielder will become dependant on the ring and such obsession will allow the corruption of the Maw to literally manifest physically from their bodies. Appearing as an avatar of pure black energies that will seek to attack both friend and foe alike while the user is left immobilized and bound to this Maw avatar until it is defeated. The corruption returning to the user's body until the next time it has accumulated enough power to manifest again.   Past users of the ring have heard a dark voice whispering to them to use the corrupting artifact further. Only to sway them to succumb to the Jailer's influence further.

Known Users -Chronologically

Nelox

First wielder of the ring. Nelox used it to study further into the deathly runic powers of Domination magic. Using the ring as an anchor to Azeroth, he and the Followers of Domination made their entry across the veil and back.

Lovemay

Briefly given by Nelox to subvert the corruption of the ring elsewhere. Shanura Lovemay fell into a short obsession with the ring's power. Increasing her necrotic powers tenfold before eventually she was demanded to hand it back to Nelox's care.

Thalishka

The san'layn Thalishka has bestowed the ring the same reasons Shanura was. To subvert the overwhelming powers of the ring to another host and a personal test of the san'layns willpower. She fared much fortunately than her Lichsworn counterpart to a certain extent. However, her usage attracted the Mawsworn to the followers' hideout.

Tyrinar

Tyrinar's interest was greatly fixated on the ring almost all the time it was in his possession. Demonstrating its power on one of the Requiem's members, it was confiscated by Xotrios. Tyrinar fixation began to increase without the ring its his possession.

Xotrios

Briefly wore it after confiscating it from Tyrinar before passing it down towards the more interested and conceited necromancer, Isaac Blightheart.

Blightheart

Using the knowledge from Tyrinar, Blightheart researched the deathly magics of the ring and used it on Tyrinar's Dark Guardian to retrieve the latter's soul back. However similar to Tyrinar, it was taken away by the hands of the Rotgarde's Executioner; Melany Ashemere.

Melany

Never wore the ring, but was tempted on multiple occasions by the dark presence within to wield its power. Melany soon began to have nightmares about the darkness within the accursed artifact. She gladly gave it to her new ally in the form of Darkmaster Gauler.

Gauler

Experimented with the runic properties of Domination magic. Having Nelox as a guide to teach him the destructive capability of the ring's energies before eventually he passed it down to him. Seeing the ring be used in more knowledgeable hands.
