Nameko Saibai was a scientist of some kind. Her body was found in Laya's cave along with some of her research notes. From said notes it seems like she was experimenting on animals, and possibly even humans, using Pitaya's Blood. Basil was the one to discover these notes and didn't share with the class.

"Side effects on the little ones are… strange to say the least. Their appearance has changed completely, turning dark red and even growing spikes. They don’t even represent the original animals they were anymore. Nonetheless, they are healthier than anticipated. Seemingly invincible too. No known diseases seem to affect them and any time one of them gets hurt, they heal within the day. A wonderful success. Now only one question remains: how will OUR bodies react to Pitaya’s Blood?
