Pedro returned the Comtessa’s smile with a small incline of his head for manners. She was still nobility after all, even if she was a co-conspirator, and benefactor, of the adventure.
But no one spoke up. Pedro waited for Lady Kirkland to explain the situation, what we found, and learned so far. Also, the danger posed by the Inquisition. When she didn’t, and the silence seemed awkward, he cleared his throat.
After a quick glance at the nearby furniture, the doctor walked over to the nearest table. He produced the cloth wrapped amulet from his bag and placed it on the table; while he unwrapped it, he explained.
“Comtessa, if I may? The Lady Kirkland will be better at explaining this, as she is the more experienced in historical excavations. But on the island we found a tribe there who, according to their shaman, was devoted to protecting this amulet.” Pedro tapped the uncovered amulet.
“It wasn’t simple, as the Inquisition was already there searching for it, too. They had tried to torture the shaman to find the hiding place. As you can see, that didn’t work. Where the Inquisition used a fist, we used an open hand.”
Pedro then produced his journal.
“I’ve been recording what we find. I would be happy to make you a copy while we’re here, Comtessa. It has notes on the island, a base translation of what we think the engravings might mean on the amulet, a map, and even about this... well... mystical voice that spoke to the Lady Kirkland and myself about the amulet. Both it and the shaman were insistent that this amulet and where it leads must not fall into the hands of evil and darkness.”
