Pedro raises an eyebrow at Don Ramon, “Wine? Well, something red would be good if we’re chased.”
After that, he looks over to the Lady Kirkland.
“I agree a comprehensive report would help the Comtessa, Señora, and I’ll help how I can. After all, I’m only a doctor. But. I suspect the Comtessa will do what she wants regarding her goals, report or no. From what I’ve heard, she doesn’t engage people for work lightly.”
Pedro indicated the blue carriage to Don Ramon and Lady Kirkland.
“If I may suggest, la Señora and el Don, we pull together what we know. We weren’t always together on the island. I can, if need be, record it in my journal.”
Pedro waits by the open door of the carriage for his companions to enter. Meanwhile, he cast a careful look around at the dock and its inhabitants. The Inquisition was involved, and if they could appear on an isolated island, it would be child’s play for them to lurk among the throng on the dock.
Once inside the carriage, and after it was moving, Pedro removed his journal, graphite pencil, and the amulet from his bag. He opened his journal to a fresh page, the started the slow work of translating the inscriptions on the relic itself.
“Señora and el Don, can you read the lettering here? I can, but it’s best to always get a second opinion.”
