How do you tell a trickster skald from an average skald? The tricksters are more... More what? More than you can take.
Origin
"Not every skald is a trickster, but every trickster is a skald". as the old saying states. Sáveni are known as helpful and understanding people. But even among them appear pranksters, and sometimes those pranksters wield highly valued skills of formshaping. Skalds are the chroniclers of traditions in general, and tricksters are no exception. A sharp distinction can be seen only when their spectacle reaches the climax. People tend to not mind it, because who would mind a night-lasting dance with overflowing joy and colours of tastes not known to this world? Such are the tricksters.
Division
Technically there are 3 ranks of trickster skalds, which distinguish them among the fellow jesters and are based upon the skills they excell at:- amser - the perception of time
- synnwyr - mixture of sensations
- gwel - shapeshifting of what is seen
Interesting idea. It's always nice to see tricksters in a more positive light - too often they're borderline murderous.
That's true! ^^ My favorite is Till Eulenspiegel and he definitely was bordering on a murderous type. I think they burned him alive for those jokes.
