Skyler Jekal

Skyer Eun-a Jekal (a.k.a. Skye)

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Starting in her sophomore year, Skyler dyed her hair her favourite shade of purple, which makes her easy to pick out in a crowd. Additionally, those with strong magical and physich senses can pick up on her Siv'ian birth, which makes her stand out from Humans.

Special abilities

As a Faerian Mortal, Skyler possesses a unique connection to the magic of Faerie, allowing her to access some amount of power even while on Earth. Skyler has continued to train and hone this ability through the years, though she rarely uses magic on Earth, as she fears it might open another rift. As formal plans are put into place to reopen the infinite chain in the post-empire era, it is likely that Skyler and other Faeriean Mortals will experience an increase in magical abilities while on Earth.   Like her friends, Skyler possesses an artifact that allows her to travel between Siv'ia and Earth without damaging either world. Skyler uses her articat to travel to training gyms, lessons, and to visit with magic instructors. She also occasionally goes sightseeing, as she finds the cultures of Faerie fascinating.

Personal history

Birth

Skyler was born to human parents living in Faerie. She was sent to Earth to live with her paternal grandparents while her parents worked on their plan to bring magic back to Earth. As a Faeriean/Siv'ian born mortal, she possesses a strong connection to Siv'ia and its magic. While she would not be able to consciously manifest this power for some time, the effects of Skye's otherworldly nature would remain strongly present in her life.

Early Life

Skyler grew up on her grandparents' farm in rural Kentucky. While strange happenings occasionally followed the girl, she was largely oblivious to their true nature. Skye was an outspoken and curious child who made friends quickly and frequently. Despite her relatively happy childhood, Skye struggled at times with her parents' absence and insecurities.   In middle school Skyler first met Kiwi Ayers, and they became fast friends. Kiwi was the one who first questioned the stories Skye's grandparents told about her parents, which led to Skye doing the same. Around this time, Skye started to get a reputation for the weird things that happened around her, and she herself started to take notice. Fearing the attention her magic was bringing, Skye's grandparents sold their farm and moved to the city, where Skye went to high school.

High School and Journey to Faerie

Skyler had a rough time in high school, as her grades started falling and her seemingly endless ability to charm her peers ran thin. She also began dreaming of Siv'ia nearly every night, which made her anxious and sleep deprived, further worsening the situation. During this period, Skye had a hard time keeping in touch with her old best friend Kiwi, as they were now long distance, and the girls soon lost contact with each other.   In her junior year, Skye met and befriended Sarita Bates. At this point her mental health was improving, and she was better able to maintain her relationships. However, that year also saw another up-tick in strange happenings, and not just for Skyler. In the summer after junior year, Sarita and Skyler were investigating these magical occurrences for Sarita's blog when they ran into Kiwi Ayers and her younger sister Lexi, who were in town with a relative for the summer. There was a lot of tension between the four at first, which wasn't helped when a portal opened up, sucking all four into the magical land of Faerie.   Still oblivious to Skye's heritage, the girls set about exploring this strange fantastical world. Along the way, they met twin holy warriors Sol and Luna Viveno. The twins revealed that Skyler was born there in Faerie, and Skye began questioning everything she had been told by her grandparents. It quickly becomes apparent that the strange happenings on Earth were leaking through from Faerie. As the girls uncover more about the history of Siv'ia, the infinite chain, and what all this means for Faerie and Earth both, they decide they need to stop whoever is causing this. Throughout the mission, Skyler repairs her broken relationship with Kiwi, and encourages her to ask Saritia out.   Eventually, Skyler meets her birth parents in their secret base in Faerie. While she initially tries to build a relationship with them, she cannot support them once she learns that they are behind the plot to bring magic to Earth. Skyler and Lexi try to reason with them, but they won't listen and it comes to a fight. Skyler unites with friends new and old, as well as connecting with her own innate magic, to bring her parents down and destroy their dangerous inventions. She was hailed as a hero in Faerie, and gifted a boon by the Queen of Faerie. Later, the mysterious High Priest Viveno arranges for the girls to return to their own world, but gifts them artifacts that will allow them to travel safely between the realms.

After Faerie and College

After returning home, Skyler confronts her grandparents about their lies, and ultimately leaves home to finish out high school back in her hometown and live with the Ayers. Following high school, Skyler took a gap year to travel the world and rediscover her place on Earth. This ultimately leads to her being absent when Kiwi, Lexi, and Sarita return to Faerie years later. Skyler eventually goes to university and earns her degree in archeology. She currently works on the Orkney Islands in Scotland, where she specialises in Neolithic ruins.

Mortal Guardians

While Skyler is not initially present in the events of Mortal Guardians, her friends stay in contact with her and she intervenes at several points both as a hero and a warrior mage.

Education

Skyler graduated from Beververn High School in Kentucky with a GPA of 3.1. She went on to study anthropology in college, eventually receiving her doctorate.

Employment

Prior to her journey to Faerie, Skyler worked on her grandparents' farm. After returning from Faerie, she worked part-time as a barista to pay for college.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Skyer is seen as a hero throughout Faerie for foiling her parents' plan to reopen the magical vertex to Earth. Eventually, the vertex was partially reopened by the Guardian of Tales Liverleaf when he destroyed Excalibur

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Skyler's strongest motivation is her love for the people around her, both friends and strangers, and her desire to protect. This leads to her choice to defend the people of Siv'ia and Earth against her parents'scheming. Skyler is also very curious, which led to her investigation of the magical happenings in Kentucky and her friendship with Sarita.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Skyler is very people savvy, and can easily make friends. She also has an easy time getting people to trust her, which helps with investigations.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Skyler is loosely affiliated with the Order of Sky, as she worked with them to bring down her parents and trained with them. However, Skyler has not officially joined the Order.

Family Ties

Skyler's only known biological family are her parents and grandparents. Now that her parents are dead and she is estranged from her grandparents, Skyler has expressed little to no interest in any other biological family she might have. Instead, she is focusing on her friends and, more recently, her boyfriend.
