Vakya

Vakya is the biggest city in the Otherlands. It is the Capital city of Zal. The city has had a storied history, and now leads the world in medical advancements. Early History   Before Zal was unified, Vakya was a Skovk city-state. It functioned as a major centre of trade and power, quickly becoming a centre for learning as well. The Temple of Tekshla was constructed as a primary place of worship for the followers of the then-fertility god.   Vakya was able to capture a few neighboring city states at the start of the Unification period. It was never a significant Empire, but it was still a prime target for the growing Zal Empire.

Zal Empire

After Vakya was taken by the empire, the city underwent significant upgrades. The streets were repaved with cobblestone throughout the entire city, and many older buildings were rebuilt in a more modern style. The Zal occupation was relatively easy on Vakya, as the local Skovk culture didn't clash with the Zal's.   As part of the Empire, Vakya had access to more resources than ever before. Several non-magical doctors started practicing there, as they could afford the risk from the lack of patients. The Temple of Tekshla also officially became a place of healing during this time.

The Kingdoms Invasion

The Kingdoms Invasion is a very dark period in Zal's history. The new invaders didn't allow local cultures or religions to practice. As such, much of the Skovk architecture and literature was lost or damaged. Vakya was one of the last holdouts, with open battles continuing for years even after the Kingdoms claimed they had successfully taken the city. It was in this bloody chapter of history that non-magical doctors began working alongside their magical counterparts.   Vakya was one of the first cities to gain independence as the Kingdoms were pushed out of Zal. The old temple, now in ruins after the long occupation, was repurposed as a field hospital during the Zal War for Independence.

Post-liberation

Vakya quickly began rebuilding from the occupation. As part of this, they built a new hospital, a medical school, and upgraded the temple to serve as a place of healing and learning as well as worship. The city has taken many steps to preserve what is left of their local culture, and restore its reputation as the centre of healing an knowledge for the world.
