Description
Worn by The Wanderer in that ancient time before
Time, these ancient sandals had already walked from one end of the universe to the other before the first mortals were born. Used to great effect during the archonomachy, the Sandals have been presented to or earned by several champions over the years, usually just before they go on a great journey.
In appearance they seem to be relatively normal - if worn and weathered - looking leather sandals that wrap up around up around the wearer's shins, with a pair of leather wings that wrap up behind their calves. When attuned to, however, the leather shines with fresh polish and the wings become animated, leaving ethereal feathers behind for a moment whenever the bearer takes a step.
History
The Archonomachy
During the Old War, Celerity was used to transport troops, delivery messages, and teleport important items far from enemy hands. It is said that Celerity is one of only a handful of relics to have been wielded by Orcs completely unrelated to human culture, as
Sédróm refused to give up even when all seemed lost, and named an orcish champion to keep up the good fight.
Homeland of Giants
The most recent previous wearer of Celerity is known now as Talekeeper Grigóros, though in the days when he was simply Pheidon he travelled the length and breadth of The Varolian constantly, learning stories in one city that he could then pass on to the next. A day came when he was speaking to Storm Giants that he learned of their ancestral homeland far, far to the West beyond all human ken.
Eager to see the world beyond Varolian borders, he searched for Celerity to aid his steps, and used the sandals to walk safely and freely for many months, before finding his destination. There he learned from Giants their language and culture, their history and faith, until at last he had no more stories to learn or teach, and walked the long walk back home.
What he did with the sandals was only learned about recently - having finished his long pilgrimage, he was instructed to throw them into the sea, where they would drift while awaiting the need for a new champion of Sédróm.
