Lútus - The Sky

The “largest” of all the primordials. All things reside within the sky, and as such Lútus can claim dominion over all. As a result Lútus is often seen as a king of the gods, usually by cultures who focus more on monarchies and tyrannies than democracies. In truth Lútus has little interest in even interacting with most other Gods nowadays, let alone ruling them.   In the early days of creation this was vastly different; Lútus was instrumental in siring Patír (leading to the creation of all life in the world) as well as creating Olsír and Sévas, but for the next Eon concerned himself soley with The Balance and reigning in any who would threaten it. In those historic times Lútus became a warrior king, constantly in conflict with his peers - he slaughtered the "Gods" ruling over giant-kind, battled with Kiderha when she grew too arrogant, and slew countless titanic monsters either created by or threatening the other gods. But as the world settled and civilisation was dawning, he retired from his post to attempt acting more as a guiding hand than a direct ruler.   While most of the time he acts well as a guide, rewarding and inspiring mortals with gifts of intelligence and creativity, he is not always fully successful. In modern times The Sky has little patience and cares not for fools or malpractice, often sending storms to harm those who displease him. And sometimes these storms arrive to harm lands who have done nothing to anger the god, but must be removed all the same for the sake of some grand plan relating to The Balance.

Divine Portfolio

Lútus is the patron deity of invention and wisdom without the hindrance of compassion or morals. Those seeking to expand their minds to create great works often pray to him, making Lútus popular with tinkers, scientists, and many of the Republic Mágos. Many claim that those who are devout can be struck by lightning and gain an epiphany, while those seeking to exploit the god are struck by lightning and turn to ash. Outside of the inventor’s circle, The Sky naturally rules over birds and other flying creatures, while garnering prayers from sailors wishing to survive or avoid storms, and druids who understand better than anyone the importance of balance. Finally, he holds sway over the season of Winter, as the time when old life begins giving way to new - a sombre yet vital time.

Divine Relationships & Shared Portfolios

The Primordials

Talsia, Éda, Lútus, and Suróza are the four founding gods of creation. They predate the rest of existence, and from their power all other higher gods were born. From Lútus' perspective the greatest responsibilty they all share is that of preserving The Balance to prevent all of creation falling to ruin.

Invention and Creation

Katas has long been Lútus' favoured friend, for invention and creation go hand in hand. The Sky will grant a lucky person incredible visions of some great wonder to build, while Katas grants them the means to do so. On the rare occasion Katas goes too far and builds something that threatens Cosmic order, an argument is followed by destructive thunderbolts erasing the creation, but the two quickly make up and start work on something new.

Celestial Protectors

Originally a group formed of Lútus, Talsia, and Kiderha - gods dedicated to slaying monsters and protecting mortals from threats too dangerous for them to handle alone. Lútus left his warrior's post after deeming The Balance safe enough, and Kiderha was slain during the Archonomachy, leaving Talsia alone to safeguard the world.   This did not last for long though, as Olsír stepped up into the role Kiderha had left behind, using magic in place of innate draconic power. Soon after she assumed her role she gave birth to The Champion, who would grow into The Dragon's true successor. The three Gods stand as the new guardians of the world, hopefully for the rest of time.

Tetrad of Knowledge

Suróza, Olsír, Lútus, and Ámmos all claim Knowledge as part of their domains. Each represents different aspects of this most vital of realms; Suróza holds sway over languages and the uncovering of lost or hidden knowledge, while Olsír is the Goddess of general knowledge, both magical and mundane. Ámmos rules over history and grants glimpses of the future, while Lútus is lord of invention - the act of expanding knowledge rather than hoarding or rediscovering it.

Piety

You gain piety with Lútus when you expand their influence in the world through acts of intelligence and deeds that garner respect for the sky:
  • Solve a challenging riddle or puzzle
  • Smite the foolish and unworthy in the name of the sky
  • Have a tactical plan successfully defeat a foe or protect an area
You lose piety with Lútus when you diminish their influence in the world through unwise actions:
  • Jeopardise others through rash actions
  • Give in to wanton destruction and rage; even at their most furious, Lútus thinks through every act.
  • Fail to plan appropriately for challenge, or impede a plan through thoughtlessness or malice
Lútus’ Devotee - 3 piety As a devotee of Lútus, you have proven your wisdom and your allegiance to the storm lord. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can deal an extra 1d6 lightning damage to the target. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.   Lútus’ Votary - 10 piety When you fail an Intelligence or a Wisdom saving throw or check, you can reroll the die, and you must use the new roll. Once you use this trait, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.   Lútus’ Disciple - 25 piety The energy of the storm fills your being, granting you advantage on initiative rolls.   Champion of the Sky - 50 piety You can increase your Intelligence or Wisdom score by 2 and also increase your maximum for that score by 2.
