Notion

Lewis leaned his stool back on two legs and looked up at the rafters. The sun wasn't down yet, but it was working on it. dust yellow-orange light came shown through the western windows and the open door of the large barn. People were milling about, the dance was going to start soon so it would be getting loud soon. Everyone was dressed in there best cloths. The ones with the least wear and tear, nicely patch and clean too boot.
He'd washed his own cloths the night before and even took a bath. And he wasn't the only one. If it wasn't for nights like these there would be a fair number of people who never took one.   Lewis wasn't one for punctuality, but the harvest dance was an exception. He'd paid the entry fee with a casserole his ma had made. every one brought some sort of food or drink. There where three huge tables off to one side where they were all set. He wasn't really interested in the food. You could eat food any day. It was only twice a year there was a town party. His best friend Hunter hadn't shown up yet, but he wasn't there for him either.   He almost fell on his ass when some one kicked his boot.
"Son of a-!"   "You just going to sit there or are you helping set up?" Justin crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.   "Justin Miller, you take that hat off your head in the building or so help me I'll do it for you, plus a kick to your back side." Sara snatched the hat off his head as she said it, making that part of the warning mute.
"And Lewis Freeman, you stop your daydreaming. You both get your tails in gear or I'll have Shells kick you out."   "I don't see you doing nothin but stealing hats." Lewis went back to balancing his chair, not worried in the slightest about the bossy girl.
