Personal magic
Personal magic is magic a person can cast on their own with no runes, circles, or outside objects. The power behind this type of magic comes directly from the user's life force. Theoretically any Oth can use this magic, but this difficult and takes lots of practice. Unfortunately Avalia and H'ove can not use magic.
There are four major types of magic, each getting more difficult than the last. The four types of magic are Attack(evocation), Healing(life manipulation), Illusion Transportation. There is a theoretical fifth though it hasn't been seen outside of the most powerful wizard who ever lived, and its dubious whether a normal person could ever achieve this as he was effected by many outside sources.
While some spells are more difficult for different people, generally this order of difficulty holds true.
People who take magic lessons from a young age can use this magic without thinking about it and use it in a utility type fashion.
Making something vanish is harder the bigger it is and the more it moves around. also feeling a thing that 'isn't there' can break the illusion. Only the most powerful wizards can trick your brain into feeling what isn't there, or ignoring the feel of what is. Some can also create illusory smells, temperatures, or even tastes.
Transportation magic, such as teleportation, usually require traversal through The Between. Teleportation is responsible for more wizard deaths than any other magical ability, as young impatient people want to get where they are going faster and don't fully grasp the danger or their own mortality. Traversing through the between is an undertaking and if you've ever survived a botched transport you're likely to get teleportation sickness every time you are magically transported for the rest of your life.
Messing up a teleportation spell can lead to several results, the most common of which are vanishing and time displacement.
Vanishing is not so much vanishing as being stuck in the between. It is possible to fish people out of the between but its even more dangerous than teleporting. Time displacement is just a lesser effect of vanishing, where you seem to have vanished but you end up where you are going after several days, weeks, or years have passed.

Evocation
Magic comes mostly from who you are and how you think. Attack magic is the easiest magic to preform, transportation and healing can be the most difficult. Attack magic is easier to use when you're being yourself attacked. It can be more a reflex and self defense mechanism than and couscous effort, though some effort is required.People who take magic lessons from a young age can use this magic without thinking about it and use it in a utility type fashion.
Healing
Healing magic is difficult for people who don't genuinely want the person they are healing to feel better. Its difficult for an Oth to trade their own life for that of another, that's basically what healing is. It takes way more energy to produce meaningful results as a healer than as an attacker. Moving air, manipulating electricity, controlling fire, these are much easier than giving up your energy and putting it in another. Directed healing requires focus and a good idea of what is wrong. It's also effected by the person getting healed. They must allow your energy in to them and not have any illnesses that prevent natural healing.Illusion
Illusion magic is difficult for many reasons. One being keeping a clear image in your mind of the thing you want to look like. Most people don't bother because when its needed you're likely to be thinking of other things or under duress. Illusion magic includes invisibility and disguising oneself. Simple disguises are the easiest, things like changing a slight feature on your face or a marking on your body. Using runes to change your looks is much easier as it stores the information inside the rune and simply borrows a small portion of your energy to keep running if done correctly.Making something vanish is harder the bigger it is and the more it moves around. also feeling a thing that 'isn't there' can break the illusion. Transportation
Transportation magic is by far the hardest magic to pull of, especially if transporting more than just yourself. Transporting inanimate objects it fairly easy though. Its living beings that are hard to move around. at least if you want them to keep living.Transportation magic, such as teleportation, usually require traversal through The Between.
