Seeds of Creation
Seeds of Creation
There are many oddities in the realm in which Duende exists, such as things simply materializing where they had not been before, be it creatures or physical structures. At the heart of these materialized beings are what is known collectively as the "Seeds of Creation", or seeds. These are generally divided into two types: dream seeds and fade seeds.
The original founders of the Adventurer's Guild were given the secret of using dream seeds to augment the power of a wielder by attuning it to the wielder and then using it to enhance their skills and attributes. Later, discoveries were made that allowed them to be used to enhance spells, templates, and even items. Thus, the accumulation of dream seeds became synonymous with the accumulation of power. Once they were discovered, dream seeds became a valuable commodity among adventurers, even though their full potential has not yet been determined.
In an attempt to prevent that power from falling into the wrong hands, the Adventurer's Guild created an initiation ritual that reveals a wielder's personal sigil to the wielder, instructs them how to bind seeds with their sigil, and binds them with powerful enchantments that prevent them from even discussing the details of the process. In this way, the guild managed to suppress the knowledge of seed binding from the general public. The guild has been ruthless in enforcing this method, even commissioning adventurers to deal with those who try to make this public knowledge.
Using Seeds of Creation
Seeds of creation have a number of uses, from empowering spells to enhancing a wielder's attributes, abilities, and equipment and generally upgrading things. Prior to being used for personal enhancement, they must be attuned to the wielder, a skill which is taught to all Adventurer Guild members. Non-guild craftsman have long since learned how to use non-attuned crystals to enhance magical items, however those items must be attuned to the wielder before they can be used.
For guild members, attuning a seed is a fairly simple process that takes but a few moments of concentration to apply their sigil to it. Attuning common items that are unattuned is similarly simple, taking but a few moments of concentration. However, for items that are more powerful the process is slightly more difficult.
Each seed, whether dream or fade, is also given a rating according to the strength of its source. The Adventure's Guild offers exchanges and storage of seeds. Receipts for stored seeds are given to the Wielder and are bound with the wielder's sigil, preventing them from being stolen or otherwise appropriated. All branches of the Guild will respect the receipts, though a wielder who wishes to withdraw many at once may have to wait some time for them to be delivered.
Rules:
- To attune an item with a rating of D or higher for any element, the wielder must succeed a CR of 10+2 per rating.
- Dream Seeds and Fade Seeds may only be traded if they are unattuned.
- Dream Seeds and Fade Seeds may only be used for upgrades if they are attuned.
- Dream Seeds exchange at a 10:1 ratio when converting down, so that 1D ds (1 D rated dream seed) is equal to 10E ds(10 E rated Dream Seeds).
- Fade Seeds exchange at a 5:1 ratio when converting down, so that 1D fs is equal to 5E fs.
- Fade Seeds can be exchanged for Dream Seeds, receiving 3ds one rating higher than the fs exchanged.
Examples:
Below are some examples of these exchanges at work. These are important to remember for allocating your resources during character development.
- 1C fs -> 5D fs (Fade seed rank exchange)
- 1D fs -> 5C ds(Fade seed to Dream Seed exchange)
- 1D ds -> 10E ds(Dream seed downgrade exchange)
- 100E ds -> 1C ds(Dream seed upgrade exchange)
Conversions
- Fades seeds may be exchanged at a 1:5 ratio, from higher rank to lower.
- Dream seeds may be exchanged down at a 1:10 ratio, from higher to lower.
- Fade Seeds may be exchanged to Dream Seeds. 1 Fade seed can purchase 5 Dream Seeds one rank higher.
Upgrading Things
- Upgrading a rank cost a number of seeds of equal to, and of, the Rank being upgraded to. (i.e. From D to C cost 3C seeds. The type of seed require depends on the thing being upgraded.
- Each element of a rating is considered a rank for the purpose of calculating upgrade cost.
