Tyranophyrio

Tyranophyrio

Among the largest creatures to frequent the Isles are the Tyranophyrio, roughly translating to ‘Furious King’. These leviathans weigh hundreds of thousands of pounds and typically measure between forty and sixty feet long, though there are claims of much bigger Tyrant’s further out to sea. They are solitary beasts, rarely interacting outside of breeding season, and despite their name, are rather docile, unless provoked or on the hunt, their preferred prey being Desselen, which they incapacitate with a powerful and impossibly loud ‘song’, before ripping them apart with massive ivory fangs.

Tyrants can sometimes be observed dragging themselves up into shallows with their large pectoral flippers at low tide, and dozing noisily in the sun until the water rises enough to wake them. They are vulnerable here, and only here, for their powerful sonic attacks are useless, and their mobility is limited. The Kar’chari, however, will not disturb a resting leviathan. Their ivory is prized above all other material for harpoons and blades, viewed as a badge of honor for bringing down such a titanic foe. To acquire such a thing by attacking a giant in his sleep would be shameful.
