Cloudracer

Slimline airships built for speed racing events.

This article is currently a WIP! What would you like to see added to it?

Airships come in many shapes and sizes: broad flat hulled vessels are used for carefully transporting heavy cargo from warehouses on land up to floating islands. They can take goods to neighbouring countries that would take too long by sea and can traverse land that's too impassable for trains.   Other airships look more like conventional sea-faring vessels like the ones used by the fearsome sky pirates known as the Stormraiders.   Today, we'll be designing a cloudracer! I've split you into teams: group one, you'll be designing a cloudracer for a single pilot, group two you'll be designing one for two pilots, and group three your cloudracer needs to accommodate a crew of six!   We'll be assessing each concept all together at the end of the session based on its size, material considerations, and of course style. You can draw your concept, make a model, or present your idea however you see fit! Remember, these things are built for *speed*, so think about how each part of your cloudracer will impact on performance.   Okay, into your groups and let's get started!

Overview

Cloudracers are a type of small airship designed for sport racing either with individual pilots or teams. Races first began to take place in the streets hovering above all of the foot traffic, which caused an uproar due to the chaos of distraction the would cause. Eventually the street races grew in popularity and moved into arenas and existing race tracks - these establishments were happy to host cloudraces and benefitted from the extra sales of cheap binoculars to the spectators.   Cloudracing is a growing popular sport and every young person dreams of building their own cloudracer out of junk and flying off to their own floating island.

This is fun. The quote gave me school flashbacks, lmao. I like the idea of cloudracing becoming a nice pastime.
