Faolán McKeogh

A pilot from the apprenticeship programme. I’m not entirely sure what the higher ups were thinking with that assignment, surely there’s a better ship out there more suited to the programme, but he’s settled in well with the rest of the crew. I’m just worried how he’ll react when he sees the nitty gritty of what the Stargazer usually gets up to.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Compared to his fellow Tau-Terrans, Faolán is quite average. From his height, to his overall (very) lanky build, to his boyish features and soft face. His most stand out features are his hairstyles - which change frequently and can sometimes be very out there - and the silver tattoo under his left right eye. The tattoo depicts a circuit board, drawn in a very simplistic style.

Physical quirks

His dominant hand is his right hand, but Faolán is ambidextrous so can use both.

Although his posture is decent, he can never hold his back perfectly straight. This is a side effect of the intense forces that the body is put under during pilot simulations (for spaceship specific pilot training) and when actually flying a spaceship.

When he’s nervous, he tends to hunch over and hide his hands (such as putting them in his pockets or holding them behind his back). He will also try to avoid eye contact.

You’re a terrible liar, even worse at hiding your feelings, in fact I don’t think anyone has a more obvious tell than you do when you’re feeling down.

Personal history

Faolán was born to Sean and Lucy McKeogh at the Sigarny Health Centre on Chatau’s Landing. He spent the majority of his life living with his parents in Astrius, Chatau’s Landing. For the first four years of his life, he was an only child, after which his parents then gave birth to another boy, followed by twins (boy and girl) a year later, then finally another girl two years after that.

Despite the constant new additions to the family, at no point did Faolán feel like his parents loved him any less. In fact, he showered his little siblings with love and affection, taking his role as the eldest child very seriously. It got to a point where, when he was twelve, he would frequently offer to help out his parents with chores or look after his siblings, all so that his parents could get some rest.

Education

In compliance with Terran Education Standards, Faolán has the following:

He studied on Chatau’s Landing at Isal Falls School (Foundation Grade), Isal Falls Academy (Lower & Higher Secondary), and Astrius Academy (Advanced Grade). Once he completed his Advanced Grade education, he spent some time with his family whilst his mother offered him advice on his future career prospects.

In 6963 UGY, he applied for the Piloting Apprenticeship Programme. Initial tests for the programme went extremely well, but Faolán wasn’t about to get his hopes up since the Apprenticeship Programmes were notorious for putting people on a waiting list for years before accepting them. To his surprise, two months after he completed those initial tests, he was invited to join the programme. He accepted the offer and was assigned to the Stargazer for his practical placement.

He is the eldest of five. In order of oldest to youngest, his siblings are: Dara (20 years old, younger brother), Fiona (19 years old, younger sister), Rónán (19 years old, younger brother), and Niamh (17 years old, younger sister). His extended family is also quite large as both his mother and father have two siblings, all of whom have their own children as well. Family get-togethers that involve all of the McKeoghs can be quite chaotic.

Traits

Faolán is a really sweet and funny guy, but he can be quite shy until you actually get to know him a little better. Sometimes, all that takes is a conversation, but if he doesn’t get a good instinctual read from a person it can take a bit longer. Despite his anxiety, he always tries to fill the silence (especially if it’s awkward) and will go out of his way to put a smile on other people’s faces.

Unfortunately, his anxiety can very easily get the better of him. It leads to him looking very clumsy, which quite a few people tend to dislike him for, whilst others think he’ll fail to perform in high stress situations.
