Being a Terra Novus Immigration Officer isn’t the most glamorous job in the galaxy. Not when we could spend your life exploring the vast expanse of space and exciting new worlds. But it is a vital job; someone has to do it, otherwise Terrans would find themselves waiting for months - maybe even years - for the Osiryx Federation to sort out their immigration documents instead.

A Day in the Life of a TN Immigration Officer

What exactly does the job entail? Well, paperwork mostly, data input, form completion. Standard administration, which is probably what puts people off the most. No one really wants to spend all day wrestling with a system just to file some documentation on someone else's behalf.

But the position is important and, for what it is worth, actually pays better than almost every other Terra Novus job with the exception of high up management positions or members of the Cerberus Fleet.

TN Immigration Officers everyday tasks include:

• Setting up all the relevant IDs for a Terran making their first jump to Osiron and keeping those IDs up to date on subsequent visits - this includes giving them the appropriate level of security access and travel passes
• Creating the appropriate visitation documentation
• Setting up housing for the first part of their stay (either hostels, hotels, or an apartment if the stay is going to be permanent)
• Liaising with the Osiryx Federation to ensure that they have the basic IDs and documentation for any Terrans that have made the jump to Osiron
• Liaising with the Osiryx Federation and various governing organisations for the other species should an individual wish to travel from Osiron to Terra (rarer, typically only happens for official visits)

How do you Become a TN Immigration Officer?

Requirements are quite admin heavy; intricate knowledge of various systems, a good ability to categorise and catalogue mass amounts of personal information, a keen eye for detail. On top of that, you need to have a squeaky clean record - not a single mark against you for anything slightly on the wrong side of the law. That includes OF laws as well as Terran ones.

As far as qualifications are concerned, a person is required to have 10 intermediate level UNSEs at grade 5 or above. A diploma will make your application look better, but the hiring managers aren’t always looking for one.

There is also a ban on current or ex-Cerberus Fleet officers. Their applications are immediately flagged by the system and rejected. The public isn’t sure why this ban is in place and Terra Novus has declined to answer any inquiries into the mystery. The simple truth is that a TN Immigration Officer needs to have a good or civil standing with the OF, considering how much they liaise with them, and most Cerberus Fleet officers do not. For Terra Novus, they believed it was easier to implement the ban rather than comb through the personnel records of any potential applicants from the Cerberus Fleet.

Alongside the typical benefits received by any member of Terra Novus, TN Immigration Officers are afforded extra holidays throughout the year. They have an ‘all access travel pass’, meaning they are an exclusive group of very few Terrans who can visit any region, planet, or space station they want (with the exception of private facilities).

TN Immigration Officers also earn a luxurious 194 000 credits a year as a starting wage.

Future Career Paths

After a few years of working as a TN Immigration Officer, a significant pay rise and updated job title is given depending on performance, the pay rise from Immigration Officer to Senior Immigration Officer is anywhere between 20 000 to 45 000 credits.

As a Senior Immigration Officer, a couple of management opportunities present themself. The first is Immigration Team Manager, which gives the individual a team of 5 IOs to oversee and another pay rise. There is also Senior Immigration Liaison, where you work with OF officials and other governing organisations to manage cross company policies, and Relay Force Senior Manager, which moves you into a more central but less specific management position.
