Charune Nis'indri
Well known for her honeyed words, sharp wit and hedonistic appetites, the sly and wily Charune has played a long and patient role in the great game for centuries rarely losing face. Having slowly clawed herself and her house out of its mire of misfortune that had befallen them both. Though a shadow of its former self, Charune has regained some semblance of respectability back for the once opulent noble household. Charune herself, like many of the Nis'indri bloodline is a beauty and highly charismatic individual using these skills like a well-placed dagger. Manipulating and charming all those around her. Though she is by no means the most affluent and powerful figure in the courts of Rie'shae, Charunes keen mind and wits have played a pivotal role in gaining strategic alliances and influence amongst the other courtiers and nobility. Making a name for herself much it the ire of her rivals who once were integral to house Nis'indris plight.
"Imagine, councillor Versheilan Bel'vannas…" Charune screwed her face up to emphasis her disgust "Just saying it leaves a bad taste in one's mouth."
Background
From a very young age Charune knew what was expected of her by her mother and her role within the house. Like many third siblings sworn to the Nis'indril, she was brought up in the traditions of her house and would be educated to become a diplomat and emissary for the house. Taught and educated in the ways of courtly conduct, she learnt the art of seduction and the ways of beguiling and captivating those around her. Later, she was dispatched to Bel'vanion'dol to be instructed in the ways of magic and then later Serrish'balaa to complete her education in the more practical aspects of her training. Upon completing her education and finally undergoing The Valroshi debutante., she officially entered into courtly society creating quite a stir. Becoming quite a sought after woman in her youth due to her beauty and charm, she spent much of her time philandering amongst dignitaries and prominent figures traveling throughout the Ithen'drels of the sunless realm. Cultivating a number of would-be suitors and developing a number of invaluable casual relationships she would use to her advantage.
Charune quickly rose to become one of the houses most prominent and well connected emissaries. Having established a number of political alliances, and gained much valuable intrigue that could be used to the houses benefit, and blackmailing numerous of her previous acquaintances to advance her own position within wider society It was during this period that Charunes growing influence and reputation would also cultivate numerous rivals and enemies amongst the nobles. The most prominent of these being Meleresse Inilani and Serine Lough'na, the latter of which would remain a consistent threat to Charune throughout her life.
"The harlot never came to us!" she muttered bitterly. Felgviir gave serine an incredulous look, she narrowed her eyes "What?" Serine spat. He sighed half-heartedly, unable to hide the creeping smile that now found its way onto his lips. "I think you seem to be neglecting the fact you had her two sisters murdered, yes?"
The downfall of house Nis'indril and Charunes rise as it's matron came during the Fourth Rie'shae and Cheth Myzavor War, the Nis'indri compound was attached by Cheth Myzavor forces, and her mother and many of the senior members of the house butchered. During the chaotic interim period that followed, her eldest sister was set to take up the mantle of Matron of house Nis'indril. However, the newly appointed matron of House Lough'na, Serine, sent assassins to infiltrate the beleaguered Nis'indril and had Charunes two sisters killed. Since then, the relationship between the two houses has been at an all-time low. This action crippled the already reeling house, thrusting Charune into the position as head of the house. A role she was initially woefully unprepared for. The next few centuries, Charune would use all of her skill and guile to steer the house away from disaster, and build it anew in the hopes to one day repay a debt to Serine and House Lough'na.
I feel so bad for charune, but she definitely sounds like she has had an interesting life so far. Great article :)
