The Blight is the name given to the corruption that seeps out is all consuming, infesting and changing everything it touches. This swelling ever growing area is simply known as the "Sea of Spores" but the spore sea is merely a side effect of the ever growing disease that stripes away all life, reducing it to a mindless fungal infestation. The Cause of the blight is unknown, save that it came in the wake of Menor'cress' demise. Those who were there to witness its inception perished with the Ithen'drel.
The living rot and decay that thrives on stripping down life and reducing it into hosts for the mycelium of the sea of spores to flourish. The blight is an unnatural and horrific affliction native to
The Sea of Spores. Often referred to as the blight of Menor'cress, as first reported by refugees and survivors of the city. The Explosion of the Spore Sea around Menorc'ress is believed to have been due to the meddling of the
Wayward Druid Respiren and the circle of spores and the behest of Ril'Nyiia in an attempt to solve Menor'cresses resource problem, reliant of the diminishing fungal forest surrounding it for materials. What occurred was an unparalleled stimulation of growth, and a change in the behaviour of many of the mycelium that dwelt within it.
Potent spores were released from the rapidly growing forests during the notorious
Dvergar siege of Menor'cress before it's fall. Taking root in the bodies of the dead and dying, they infested the cadavers, manipulating them into a wretched tortured shell of their former selves. Urged forward to attack the uninfected, releasing clouds of spores as the fungus fruits spreading their blight onto other living things. Very few reportedly survived, fewer still made it away from those caverns uninfected. Raising the alarm for the great forcefield around the blossoming spore sea to be hastily erected. Since then, the shambling wracks of what were once sentient life can be found stumbling around the sea of spores, attempting to cross the threshold of the great forcefield and seeking out life out to spread the contagion.
The common misconception is that the blight is solely responsible for the spread of the spore sea and any of the other ghastly diseases that come from it. While the blight does spread through the miasma and dispersal of spores like the rest of the sea, this particular parasitic fungus is far more insidious. Responsible for spawning the terrifying
Shamblers.,
Blight Worts and worse. In many cases it leads to hallucinations and paranoia, some survivors have even claimed that it influenced their memories, recalling false ones that were not theirs.
A cruel and sadistic malady that addles the mind and slowly corrupts you from in inside out until you are a wretched husk, fruiting bulbous fungus from ruptured flesh and spewing spores wherever you lumber. The lucky ones succumb and perish to this cruel fate, the unlucky ones… it’s a waking nightmare.
