Triton

Born of the Sea

Long ago, there was a spectacular seaside city that was well known across the lands for it’s prosperity. It was the creation of a younger demigod who constantly bragged about it to the other gods. It was quite an accomplishment in the eyes of most gods, except for the goddess of the sea. She was jealous of the fame of the city, the constant bragging of the demigod, and also didn't like the amount of fishing and industry it brought to her seas. So on one fateful day she called the waves up, and crashed them into the cliffside below the city. After much devastation, the cliff face crumbled and the city fell into the sea. As it sank, the sea goddess felt a hint of sadness for the people caught within, so with her power she transformed the people so they would be able to swim and breathe underwater, combining their nature with that of her sea creatures. And so Tritons and Merfolk were born. Using the currents and waves to push the city far from the land, the sea goddess watched proudly as the new denizens of her realm began to rebuild their aquatic home.

From another World

Because of the acts of the sea goddess, the triton didn't come to land often, and when they did they weren’t treated the same as most. Those that came ashore were often found living in poorer parts of towns or cities.. But like the other areas of the world, that strange magic corruption also found its way to the sea. The tritons thought this may be because of what the sea goddess did, causing the other gods to punish them. But as the battle for survival went on, they came to realize it wasn't only happening to the sea. So with bravery the tritons made an alliance with the races of land walkers and alongside them attempted to fight against this corruption. In the end it was still too much, and when they thought hope was lost, a flash of light happened. The triton suddenly arrived in the seas of the new land. They were unsure what saved them, but they were grateful and started to begin anew.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Triton are a bit smaller than humans on average but are still considered medium sized. They are humanoid with 2 arms, 2 legs, and a head, but have fish-like features. Their skin is scale-like and can come in a wide range of colors but the most common is yellowish-green through shades of blue to deep purple. Their heads also can have fins and horns on them as well as their elbows. Their feet and hands are webbed which makes them good swimmers.   Male: The triton gender difference it pretty well the same as humans expect most males tend to grow boney horns instead of the female’s fancier fins   Female: The triton gender difference is pretty well the same as humans expect most females tend to grow colorful fins instead of boney horns.

Genetics and Reproduction

Unlike their ocean brethren, Tritons reproduce like other mammals do. They have a 9 month gestation period and can on average have one child per birth.

Growth Rate & Stages

Tritons grow faster and live longer than humans do, reaching maturity around age 15, and can live up to 200 years. During the years before 15 a triton will live with their family and mostly stay in the sea. Also during that time they will learn many things to prepare them for a choice they may make when 15 comes. At the age of 15 a triton can choose to experience what the land and its people have to offer or choose to stay at sea and within the community. Also at this age the fins and horns of tritons should be visible and by the age of 25 those features will reach their full limit.

Ecology and Habitats

The triton tend to stick to the sea as their living area. They often find nice fortifiable areas to build settlements, making sure they are close to a good source of food. Tritons are also very territorial and most communities just stick to their settlement and surrounding area. For the few curious tritons that venture on land, they tend to find groups and crew and stick together in the lower income parts of towns or roam as travelers.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Triton can eat and drink the same things that humans can. They often lean more towards sea style food and through their experiences on land have taken a new liking to rice.

Biological Cycle

Although tritons live longer than humans, they experience a similar life cycle. The older they are the more frail they become, and the color of their scales fade and become more dull.
