Classes in Útgarðar

This article details how the classes work and function in Útgarðar. Note I am the DM and author I can change anything.

Artificer: Artificers, more often called rune smiths, are a group of magic users who weave spells and power into items with magical runes. They construct runic golems, stone sentries, spheric guardians, and all other types of constructs in Útgarðar. They are most common amongst the dwarves of Hammerdeep and the rock gnomes.
Barbarian: Barbarians are common warriors throughout the land of Útgarðar. The most common variations are the Totem warriors found in the cults of the beasts that have cells throughout the land, Berserkers are found amongst common warriors and are thrown into a rage with powerful concoctions, Storm Heralds are found on a case by case basis, and Battleragers are used by the dwarves of Hammerdeep.
Bard: Bards, called Skald, are the primary recorders of history and singers of songs in the land. They are held in high esteem and considered respected people. Of course there are bad skald but they are regularly outshined by the good ones. Snorri Sturluson is one of the most famous skald in Útgarðar.
Cleric: Clerics of the gods are common due to the widespread worship and honor of the devine. They are usually multi classed as another class else as well. For instance a cleric of Odin, depending on their inclination, is usually also a wizard, rouge, or fighter.
Druid: Druids are less common than clerics but are still more common than in most worlds. They tend to live in secluded communities or on frontier towns near the wilderness. They protect the people from the nature and the nature from the people. Druids are also often found amongst the elves of Hollow Oak.
Fighters: The most common group of people are fighters. They are usually champions or battlemasters. Some are eldritch knights, these are people who want to bolster their combat with magic and are also often devotes of Odin. Arcane archers are found amongst the elves and vigmen, they are loved for their skill in picking off far off targets in armies and raids. Due to the low amount of horses in most areas cavaliers are only really found in Galtarland and the Rikis.
Monk: Monks are found in small schools of unarmed combat that mainly teach peasants and laymen so they can fight if caught without a weapon. Some soldiers take training to never be without a weapon as loosing your sword or ax in combat spells doom for most warriors. Unarmed training is also taught to nobles to participate in unarmed honor duels.
Paladin: Paladins are rare but not unheard of. Valiant warriors dedicated to a goal can have their oath and dedication grant them power. They are most often found amongst the orders of combat in the Rikis and lone warriors with a strong conviction to their goal.
Ranger: Called Vigmen they are groups of people who travel in the wilderness battling monsters so they don't harm the populous. Many an upcoming orc warlord has been assassinated by a long range shot or dropped into a convenient spike trap from a vigmen. They are used as elite archers or spies in the jarls armies.
Rouge: Street gangs and thieves guilds are common in the larger cities. A sneak and thief is a useful thing. In lieu of execution some are forcibly recruited into the military to act as scouts or spies.
Sorcerer: Sorcerers are not unknown in Útgarðar. Draconic ones can usually trace their ancestry to one of the dragons of Mt. Drekafjall., pockets of wild magic have remained in large areas of wilderness especially around Villt Svæði so a wild magic sorcerer is not uncommon in a more rugged town or amongst the wildmen, Divine souls can usually trace their linage to Odin, Thor, or Loki having been spawned during their travels. The other exist in a similar pattern.
Warlock: Many powerful and old beings exist in the world. Many of them are willing to share their power for a price. Notably with the sheer amount of magic weapons scattered around hexblades are by far the most common kind of warlock.
Wizard: Many isolated wizards live across the Útgarðar. Either as court wizards or small schools in large cites or isolated locals. The most common school is evocation, for obvious reasons, followed by divination. Divining is a time honored tradition of magic called Seiðr.
Other Notes
  • If you have a reason for a class to be the way it is I am all ears. I am the DM after all.
  • This page may change in the future as the world develops.
  • Have a good reason if you want to play a artificer I will be stringent on that one.
"The skills and powers of the people of Útgarðar are as varied as the people in them. Melee is my favorite though, with a bit of magic on the side"
