Rune Smiths
Rune Smiths (also called Rune Carvers, Forgemasters, and Line-Molders in true kenning fashion) are a type of magic user in Útgarðar who weave magic and power into weapons, items, and creatures of stone and earth. They are uncommon enough that most have not met one, but all know of them. The patron deities of Rune Smiths are the brothers Brokkr and Eitri and the Sons of Ivaldi who are invoked during specific sections of forging with each son governing a part of the forging process. The brothers and sons are ostensibly dwarven gods but are invoked by most smiths, both normal and rune, in Útgarðar.
The standard kit of a rune smith is a set of tools to craft their work and a vast amount of scrap and junk to be used in crafting. It is said that reaching into the pocket of a rune smith is like reaching into a merchant's warehouse, you never know what is going to be there. They use their tools, varied for each but they tend to be that of a blacksmith's, wood worker, or stonemason, to craft their art.
The work of a rune smith are magical items and pieces of wonder that can be used for many magical uses. They can imbue their power into items and infuse them with magical power to be used by them or others. These items can be one use or can last until the moment of the smith's death or even later. But their true power lays in the artifacts and items they can craft.
They craft all number of magical items from the legendary like Óðinn's spear Gungnir, Þórr's hammer Mjölnir, and the folding ship of Freyr Skidbladnir, to the common like simple enchanted weapons and items like wands. They also create constructs of magic and materials like golems of all kinds, stone sentries and spheric guardians, and yet others more specific and terrible.
The skill at Rune Craft can be found in anyone but is most commonly seen from the dwarves of Hammerdeep and the various rock gnomes. Especially skilled smiths may seek out the knowledge of rune magic to augment their own knowledge and skill.

Trivia
- Do not get a rune smith and transmutation wizard mixed up. Both change things into other things and make golems but one can turn the earth against you in humanoid form while the other can turn you into earth.
- The most popular pastime for rune smiths is making Rauður Gullbær, named after the before named smith. They are very complicated machines that do very simple tasks like open a door or cook an egg.
- Drink and runework do not mix. If you see a drunk rune smith just walk in the opposite direction until they stop exploding everything, this also goes for evocation wizards.
"Eh, pretty good. Not as much as us though."
"Nah, course not."
