Heat-shielded or fire-retardant gloves were added to the Loyalist Caretaker Costume after Cassidy learned that the enchantment only protected from burns, but did not protect the caretakers from the pain caused by the heat.

In a conference in 1975 one of the caretakers wore a pair of heat-shielded and fire-retardant gloves during a ritual. These gloves drew the interest of the other caretakers, as the mask was protecting them from the flames anyway.   However, even through the burn protection the heat of the flames was still painful. After this came out it turned out that many caretakers had been wearing such gloves for many years or even decades, but never showed it to others.   Many feared that they would be laughed at or ostrazied for not just depending on the masks protection. However, once the gloves were out quickly most caretakers began adapting them and inquire where they could buy them.   There were some worries that Cassidy would disapprove, but when she was made aware of the gloves she just seemed surprised that the caretakers hands were hurting from the flames. She immediatly moved to purchase a company which could produce and develop better protective gloves for the caretakers.
