Fuldair

The greatest ship-building city in the continent of Eirinn, Fuldair was once a haven for piracy that was turned around when it elected a democratic leadership, the Court of Sails. It used its seafaring prowess to build an empire around legitimate trade and shipbuilding. Many of the finest merchant ships in Eirinn were built at the Westport Deepwater Shipyard, and it is known as the home of the Blue Wolf Mercenary Group, a guild-like business that hires out mercenaries for various “unusual” jobs.   Fuldair was annexed by the Silver Hand, a military faction from North Eirinn, from 1468-1478 and used to stage a sea blockade of Sempervirentis during the War of Countless Faces (1445-1478).

Etymology

Fuldair comes from the Old A'arden 'ful' meaning 'new', and 'dair' meaning 'hope'. The name of the original fishing village, New Hope, became 'Fuldair' after the village Elders expanded it to become a town.

Defences

The city of Fuldair is completely walled on three sides, and borders the River Yorin on the fourth. A smaller river makes access from the west difficult, while the northern-most area is comprised of the Ironsea Estate, owned by the Noble House of the city, which features its own private defences. The east and Cemetary walls are protected by three rows of ditches that run from the river to the north-east corner of the Ironsea Estate.

Industry & Trade

Fuldair is predominantly a shipbuilding and shipping city, as well as a mid-point along the coast of the east of Eirinn for shipping running north to south, and vice versa. The Westport Deepwater Shipyards build some of the most impressive ships in Eirinn, and Fuldair has one of the most reliable repair service structures along the coast. The city is also famous for formerly being a pirates' haven, and many artists, historians and tourists visit the city to learn more about its past or seek inspiration for their works.
