Laughing Goblin

The Laughing Goblin is a large, old, tall-timbered, and famous tavern and inn on a square a few blocks from the docks of Phlan. It caters to a rough crowd of sailors, dockworkers, and mercenaries. A woodblock sign depicting a grinning goblin hangs over its door and is always busy.

Interior

The common room of the Laughing Goblin has two floors with a large open space in the middle, where the bar, stage, and a large fireplace are located. There are stools at the bar, booths along the walls, and tables in the open space. There is a large window on the second floor overlooking the square. The window cannot be opened.   The Laughing Goblin has seen better days. The woodwork is dark and worn, and the one-white plaster is now yellowed and crumbling. The chandeliers and lanterns are rusted, and the furniture shows signs of heavy use and the scars of numerous brawls. The only decoration in the tavern is an old and well-worn carved totem of a laughing goblin.

Food and Drink

The tavern is famous for its cabbage soup, the strong smell of which is always wafting in from the kitchen. The soup is made from an old secret recipe and is always served with freshly baked bread and a piece of cheese. Other menu items include stews and the catch of the day (freshwater fish, because the Moonsea is an inland sea.)   The Laughing Goblin always has at least three beers on tap. It has an extensive list of beverages available, but none of its wines are good.

Entertainment and Events

Sometimes musicians such as drummers and pipers perform on the stage.   Barroom brawls are not unknown in the Laughing Goblin. However, Imizael and Fat Mar (Markoth Hasselpond try to avoid them. Imizael shoos out brawlers as soon as she can. She has been known to buy a round of drinks for anyone who helps break up a brawl.
