Euliess, The Lonely Land

"In all my time as a wright of the Assetheian Marsat, never has a story drew tears from me with the same fervour as that of lost Euliess. To say that the people of that land are accursed and lost would likely be one of the greatest understatements ever spoken, and in equal measure would only serve to torture those poor souls even more. Forgotten and alone, perhaps the folk of Euliess are the greatest lesson for any who seek immortality, metaphorically or literally, for the silent candles of their once great homeland strike in me a fear far greater than the frail mortality which is so often found lingering by the side of graves...
-Marsathir Alun, The Candle Folk
Euliess was once a large nation built across the steppe lands and forests of Assethei's far east, shrouded perpetally by mists and thick rainstorms which both hid and protected this land of inventors. Nestled between vast nomad territories, the people of Euliess held onto their strong identity and culture only through the might of their creations, vast walls and structures built by artisans and geniuses of the highest order. Indeed, Euliess was a land of great ego, every citizen, called an Akeray, given free reign to pursue their own desires and whims, eventually shaping the populace into a people of individuals, quite different from the collectivist societies so common to the spirit folk nomads who clamoured at their mist-drowned borders.

Geography

Euliess, at its prime, was made up of rolling hills and highlands sheltered under an almost ceaseless canopy of rain and mist. Outsiders would remark that it was a sorrowful, quiet place, unsuited to the eccentricities and ingenuity of its populace. The landscape was mostly barren, and as most places back then, was prone to shifting and warping at the peripherals of its edges and shapes, leading to no road being exactly the same twice. While this frustrated many visitors, the local Alkeray found boundless inspiration and motivation in the protean hills of their home.   To the north, Euliess bordered the Lekay Lecor, meaning "Abyssal Sea" in the local tongue, which spewed forth all manner of irregularity and abomination. Strange creatures were known to wander the sodden steppes, drenched in the grey sky's tears and melting away into the mist, leaving only the memory of their face in the paintings and stories of inspired Alkeray.

Fauna & Flora

The natural creatures of Euliess are largely forgotten, mostly thanks to the tragedy which latter befell the land. However, many animals, both normal and strange could be seen in the recovered artworks of Euliessan painters and carvers. Some of the more familiar included large wild cats, dogs and rodents, while among the stranger their existed the cat-horse hybrids of the Roan and the strange silken wind-fish known as the Elewr.
