Vanora Targaryen was born as the second child of King Rhaegon and Queen Elara Targaryen, Growing up in the splendor of King's Landing and Dragonstone, Vanora was raised alongside her elder brother, Valarion Targaryen and other siblings. Their upbringing was deeply rooted in the traditions of their house, with a strong emphasis on dragon lore, history, and the art of rulership.
During her childhood, Vanora developed a close friendship with Lady Elara Blackwood, a noblewoman of House Blackwood who she took on as a handmaiden.
