Sensory Manipulating Augmented Reality Technology v13

Known simply as 'the helmet' to the citizens, the Sensory Manipulating Augmented Reality Technology (SMART) is a highly advanced AR device that citizens of the City of Flowers is required to wear at all times.

Description

It covers most of the head, including the eyes, nose and ears, the section covering the eyes being a visor. The shape is spherical, save for some petal-like protrusions encircling the top section and can be any color save for green. Coming from lower back part of it is a thick cable that ends with a jack and this jack plugs into a port where the skull and the spine meet. This area also serves as a 'network port', which allows for every citizen be connected through a neurological implant.

Capabilities

As the name suggests, the SMART alters the users perception of the world around them. The visor of the SMART overlays what the user sees with an augmented image, improving the appearance of some things and outright replacing what they see in others. Over the ears, the audio system not only plays sounds/music appropriate to what the user sees, but also completely deafens the user to the outside world. The only exception is when another citizen is speaking and through a combination of the microphones near the mouth and the neurological implant, citizens are able to hear each other through the audio systems. Lastly, the nose is being constantly feed filtered 'clean' air and any sense of smell (and taste) is manipulated via the implant.
All of this combined allow for the cities ruling faction to have complete control over what the citizens experience.

History

The SMART started out as an innocent entertainment device that lacked the extreme modifications to user perception. However, as the world around the city changed the city began to decay, more and more extreme measures were taken to 'protect' the citizens from the reality of their situation. Anyone that becomes aware of the truth, are quickly targeted by the Thorns to keep said truth from spreading....
