Various Languages and Accents

Languages

Nothing extensive here, just some notes about it.

Quintesson

The Quints are very guarded about their language, making sure to only speak in their ‘clients’ language when around them. This leaves very few non-Quints to even have any knowledge of it. Partly for giggles, I use a language mixer set on ‘Cthulhu’ when I want to ‘show’ their speech.   Known users:
  • Starscream – fluent
  • Orion Pax/Optimus Prime – comfortable (being a data clerk has it’s ‘perks’)
  • Skywarp – very limited (just the curse words and insults!)
  • Soundwave – unknown/suspected (he’s Soundwave….)

Wing Language

A special ‘sign language’ invented by Skywarp and Thundercracker during the Age of Wrath and improved upon with Starscream’s help. It requires four mobile wings to ‘speak’, though anyone can learn to understand it. The very basic of it is simply each letter being assigned to a specific pattern of wing lifts: in a sense, it is like binary only the 0s and 1s would represent a wing being down or up, respectively. This is often ‘spoken’ very rapidly. Common words are given a special wing movement to enable even faster communication.   At present, very few bots know of this language, in part due to the war, but mostly because the inventors are very choosy on who they teach it to.   Known speakers:
  • Starscream
  • Skywarp
  • Thundercracker
  • Arcee (learning) (only in dragonfrom)
  Known to understand:
  • Jetfire
  • Soundwave (suspected)
  • Wheeljack (learning)
  • Yarzon
  • Zephyr

Accents

Underworld

Developed during the Age of Cataclysm, Underworld is a 'Southern' sounding accent that is still somewhat common in the current era.  Speakers of this accent always shorten the 'ing' suffix to 'in' at the very least.  Those with a heaver version replace 'you' and 'to/too/two' with 'ya' and 'ta' respectively, while the heaviest version replace 'a' and 'I' with 'ah'.   Example (heavy):  "We will be havin' the meetin' tamorrow.  Ah hope ya will attend."   Known speakers:
  • Ebonscream - medium
  • Wheeljack - light
  • Stormwise - initially heavy, but trained himself out of it
  • Zephyr - Initially heavy, but trained himself out of it
  • Eclipse - light

Siren

Like Underworld, this accent was developed during the Age of Cataclysm, but was exclusively used by the tribe known as the Sirens, whom controlled the area sounding the Sonic Canyons at their peak.  This accent is instantly recognized by it's melodic tone and lack of hard 'T' and 'ck' sounds (the latter replaced with a 'g').  The words 'an', 'a' and 'the' are also completely absent from their vocabulary.
Due to the crimes the Siren's committed both on their own and while in service to the Quintessons, the accent is all but wiped out due to the tribe being ruthlessly purged.  Those that survived said purge taught themselves to speak without it to conceal their association.   Example:  "You are fool to believe tha' Wre'ger's will ever stop their assaults on us!"   Known speakers:
  • Flashwing
  • Flatwheel (Karmaverse)
  • Broken (Karmaverse - mixed with Underworld)
