Branch of an Idea

The unnamed NS5 robot was standing in Susan's office, trying to get answers. Susan said that the universe doesn't make sense, easing one of the robot's programming conflicts. To test this, it looked at the Janet which was standing nearby.
"Janet, please break a branch off of an Idea of a Food Tree, and hand it to me so I can test its weight and density", the robot asked.
"Here you go", Janet said, obeying a request significantly beyond possibility with no more effort than a light switch being flicked.
This item looks like a tree branch made of three-dimensional shadow, but it isn't. What is it?

Specifically, a physical manifestation that is used like a club that inflicts psychic damage. The damage type is determined by all the knowledge of what you were just hit with is known by you upon being hit, though it's forgotten just as quickly.
