Cross Pollination

This Law can get out of hand if not handled properly!   Native to all classic pottable plants in Ultima Online, the benefits and restrictions both come with this Law. They are:
  • Plants go through 'growth checks' once per day. Plants age from 1 day to 9 days. During any growth check, they might get an issue of their own to deal with. They might have a small amount of poison killing them somehow, or some bugs might be eating them. They might also have grown a disease that's damaging them, but the alchemy disease only appears if they've been over-potioned. Like if a plant has bugs, then a greater or deadly poison potion should be dumped into the pot so the plant can absorb it and fight off the bugs itself. If you put too many potions in though, then the plant will probably be poisoned and need a greater cure potion, but also it's been given more potions than it needs so it might also have disease now. Plants recover slowly, and only a fully satisfied growth check or two will be needed for a Healthy plant (100% HP is Vibrant) to become Vibrant. A Dying plant will take twice that or more, and is at an even higher risk of even more problems. Using a greater strength potion to help the plant not get maladies in its next growth check helps, and using a greater heal potion to help speed its recovery also helps. These potions also aren't necessary for it, so they can cause disease.
  • If a plant survives to day 7, then it can be pollinated or have its pollen used to pollinate another valid plant.
  • If a plant survives to day 9, then if it wasn't pollinated, it will pollinate itself. It's considered fully mature at this point.
  • On a plant's 10th day, it produces 1 seed. It can at maximum, produce 8 seeds. Certain colors of certain plants also produce other resources (orange petals, red leaves, green thorns) once a day until they produced their maximum of 8.
  • At any time from day 9 on, a plant can be sterilized to become decorative. It will no longer require water or potions, but also doesn't have pollen and can't produce anything. If it's already produced everything it can, then you pay for its lack of maintenance with its lack of pollen.
  • If a plant of any age is put into a box at home, or a pet's backpack, then it will no longer get any light and won't go through health checks. Your character can safely go on vacation (or more likely be kidnapped) and not have to worry about your plants. They will still grow in your bank account storage, though.
  • The brighter the color of a plant, and the more flowery it is, the more likely it will attract bugs.
  • Plants from other realities that didn't age and required no care now require care and do age! Make sure Nexus will let you go home, or someone else is there, and you have all the potions and water you'll need before you neglect your garden, or you might come home to colorful sticks where your prize flowers used to be.

  • Make sure to check each plant each day. You'll be able to tell what each one needs. Just make sure not to neglect them, and to give them what they want.

    Plant needs:
  • Water (not every plant every day)
  • Greater Poison (for bugs)
  • Greater Cure (for fungus)
  • Greater Heal (for disease)

  • Plant maladies:
  • Dry (it needed water yesterday and you didn't give it any)
  • Infested (it needed poison yesterday and you didn't give it any)
  • Fungal (it needed cure yesterday and you didn't give it any, and it might have gotten more water than it needed)
  • Diseased (you gave it more potions than it needed and now your alchemy has hurt it)
  • Poisoned (you gave it poison when it didn't need it, or gave it more poisons than necessary)

  • Plant health:
    Vibrant
Healthy (one neglected need one day)
Dying (two or more neglected needs one day, or one neglected need two days)
    Dead

What counts as a valid plant for cross-pollinating? It has to grow in a pot. Ultima Online has plant pots for sale at the provisioner (found in almost all cities). Pokemarts have Berry Capsules so you can grow fruit in your backpack, Stardew Valley has indoor plant pots so you can grow corn in your bedroom for some reason, Star Trek has hydoponic bays, and 'supposed to be reality' shows have window planters.
