Dhurrizram
The Frozen Prison
Dhurrizram, or the Tower of Ice, is a prison constructed on an iceberg in The Shards of Glass. Prisoners that enter are given the challenge to fight their way to the bottom, and if they can exit, the are pardoned. Originally crafted ast he home for Vulkjornn, the spirit eventually abandoned it due to the Dissonance of the Learean Leviathan. As the Shards of Glass were once connected to the continent, the Dissonance brought earth-shattering quakes and tsunami that rent the northern Obsidian coast, sending Dhurrizram into open ocean. The Dissonance had also brought great floods of other-worldly creatures that worked to sunder the tower, though the defenses of Vulkjornn proved effective for a great time. This turned their once-home into a fortress of deathtraps and dead-ends. Vulkjornn also offered it as a gift thereafter to the Fjorlosian people, as a trade for occupancy of what is now Mt. Vulkjornn, to which they had agreed. The Fjorlosians at the time had an uprising in visitation from other lands, as the Investiture of Realms had just finalized, and as a result, humans, elves an talii that wandered into these lands, with no regard for local customs, came to break them. Dwarven punishment systems did not include imprisonment, but did include things far worse to dwarves than capture. These punishments, however, were not seen as good enough for prisoners from foreign lands with different standards. Thus, the acquisition of Dhurrizram was an opportunity to create a punishment fitting not only for those that do not feel poorly for prohibitance from craftsmanship, but would indeed feel punishment as a result of threat of life and limb. Dhurrizram was made to be a gauntlet. An iron and chain elevator on the side of the tower rises to the top, where prisoners are chained to one another, and lead into. Often their hands are chained as well, though not always. Prisoners are given nothing but the clothes they wear, but if they can fight their way to the bottom, they are pardoned from all crimes in Fjorlosia. The Efficacy of Escape
Very few escape Dhurrizram, and it's normally considered to be an equivalent of the death sentence, or execution. In Akathia, Dhurrizram is seen as worse than a simple execution, as at least a swift blade through the neck is a mercy compared to what atrocities from ages past lie in wait within the iron walls of that prison.
Even after one has escaped, however, they are abandoned on an icy wasteland with little in the way of warmth or a way over an ocean.
