Velkan
Money Is Power
This Fjorlosian currency is crafted from Mythral crystals. With specific arcane schematics that encompass the engraved art of a specific craftsdwarf, Velkan are a semi-standardized currency backed by specific Fjorlosian-mint gold Coins. The Velkan was a developed by the Dwarves of the Velka Clannik to accrue wealth using their surplus of Mythral crystal. The crystal contains an amount of magical potential that is dependent on its facets, shape, volume, as well as its artistic value, and its use is the only way to manipulate magic physically. Velkan are made in a few standardized ways.- Velka of Twenty - Velkan that have a value of twenty gold pieces of Fjorlosian minting. Typically used for single bulk exchanges, or large purchases for an individual. They glow dimly, with a deeper blue glow than normal Mythral crystal. Typically they are often in a truncated octahedron (d8) cut.
- Velka of Fifty - Velkan that have a value of fifty gold pieces. Mostly used for business exchanges and by trade caravans moving large shipments, and are more common outside of the Fjorlosian Realm. These give a vibrant purple glow, are often trillion-cut, and around three inches in length.
- Velka Cent - Velkan that are worth one-hundred gold pieces. Use primarily for rare artefacts and for Realm to Realm arrangements such as paying tithe to a particular spirit on behalf of a Realm, yearly tariffs, or for reparations due to unjustified warfare techniques. When seen in the hands of an individual rather than an organization, they are seen as an ostentatious social token. They glow a dull golden orange, and are often about the size of a tea saucer.
Conversion to Sar
Velkan and Velkazar alike can be destroyed for the raw magic that inhabits, them: sar. This pure form of magic is volatile, and is as if a spell was cast without having made any shape or seam where the magic could be transformed before emergence which is a typical requirement. That prerequisite, however, is indeed being met; the crystal that it once found a home in brought it to Virosia, but it was never fully expended. Sar accumulates in a Velkan or Velkazar crystal slowly, and the sign of good craftsmanship is high accumulation of sar, indicated by a steady glow.
When sar is released from a Velkan crystal of any kind, it launches itself toward the nearest diffusion point. This can mean the most perfectly geometric shape in proximity, or if an item is designed to draw magic towards it, such as an Adzir or magically operated door, the sar will prefer that innately.
