Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Tome of Temporal Focus, despite its name, is more of an ordinary book than a magical one. The magical properties of this book come from the rhupite gem fixed to the socket on its cover. Otherwise, it is nonmagical in all regards.
The gem fixed to the tome’s cover socket is the basis of its design. Rhupite gems can be made to turn anything magical so long as one has an idea of what they desire in mind. Because it can create and store energy, the gem—and by extension, the book—can be used as an arcane focus. What was originally simply a tool for busy work suddenly becomes an essential part of a mage’s life.
Outside of the gem, the book is as average as any other. It may as well have been bought from a market, but it was hand-crafted for the sentimental value. The only part of the book that isn't organic material (aside from the gem and socket) is the golden lock keeping it shut.
