Leontinian the Arrogant

Emperor of the East

For all the infamy he gained with later generations, Leontinian was not all that remarkable in the end.
— Titus Alvenius, Archivar of Tarquinia

Leontinian, alternatively known as the Arrogant or Great, was a Vardanian General and Usurper in the early 31st Century DA. Most famous for his rebellion against the ruling Severan Dynasty in 3016 DA, Leontinian subsequently rose to the position of Eastern Emperor, ushering in the Diarchy. Born from minor Rhovarin nobility sometime in the late 2960s, Leontinian opted for a career in the military.   While not seen as an exceptional military man, he proved to be adept enough to climb the ranks, culminating in the position of Legatus Imperii at Oriente. The military record mentions him holding this position from 3005 DA on, however, some have argued that he held the position informally since at least 2995. While his rebellion ended in a stalemate, he managed to force the legitimate Emperor Gratian II. to grant him rule over the East.   His tenure as Emperor from 3017 to 3021 DA was rather unremarkable, marked mostly by low-intensity war with both the Feran Warlords of the Former Kingdom of Anrak and the Western Hegemony under Gratian. He does seem to have done a decent enough job keeping the loyalty of his army, as proven when he died unexpectedly in the summer of 3021 DA from what turned out to be stomach cancer. His son Leon seems to have followed him as Emperor without issue.

In the past decade, the Hegemony has seen a drunk, a whore, a fanatic and now a boy with barely a hair on his chin sitting on the throne. This madness must end.

Very short and sweet. A great article, though it's sad his reign was so unremarkable save for his military success.
